I will likely need to sell this one to fund another purchase. Very nice design with lovely eye appeal in my opinion.

1694. German States. Augsburg under Title of Leopold I (1657-1705) as Holy Roman Emperor. "Water Taler". 44mm. Obv: Pine-cone on pedestal between two river gods, two cornucopias below/ Rev: Orb on crowned double-headed imperial eagle, holding sword and scepter.

A solid stone pinecone has been the symbol of Augsburg as far back as anyone can remember. The oldest relic discovered was 2000 years old. This symbol has deeply etched intersections engraved into its bottom-heavy conical shape. The pinecone, which is seen sporadically over the city today, became a part of Augsburg’s coat of arms in 1275.
