Where do all the coins come from?

they don't seem to update their "stats" page with the latest backlog anymore. It's showing 5 days for Express

Where's that two weeks coming from?

I'll be very disappointed if that's the case. I have my first Express submission that was received at the PO by PCGS on the 15th...and not logged in until the 18th...if I need to wait 2 weeks from that date for my coin to be graded, I will not be at all pleased with having spent the extra money for the Express tier. I'm holding out hope that the 5 days on the Services page is accurate.

    Here's that current table:
    Standard & Secure U.S. World
    Express 5 6
    Regular 10 18
    Economy 27 24
    Modern 15 29

Edit to add: I found it curious that I had an economy submission received at PCGS on the same day that was logged in on the next day, while my express submission (mailed separately) wasn't logged in until Friday. I'm hoping they aren't playing games with turnaround times by holding back on the logging of express orders.

Of course not, because then you wouldn't send any coins in, would you?

Econ over at NGC just took me 13 business days. image >>

you make that sound like that's good for NGC. That's terrible. Econ is 13 days? Means they are lacking business. Yet everyone complains that PCGS is backlogged. Wonder if that is why CLCT stock jumped 12% in last two days. Business is great

I always wanted to suggest a budget crossover service for $15 where any coin of $200 value or less in ICG, NGC, ANACS or SEGS holder gets looked at by just a finalzer and he/she alone determines if coin will cross and at what grade. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have an Express rec'd on 10/10...............still waiting. I'm going to drop down to Regular service next time! Express is not worth it to me anymore for a two week wait I'll wait another 10 days or some for $25 less per coin!

I realize they were just in Vegas so expect a bit of a delay but I would be very disappointed if that's the case.
Have 9 coins received Express service 10/16, will let you know the time frame.

My "walkthrough" is at 4 days.

The websites says the turn around times are estimates, so with the show in Vegas they are probably backed up...
  • mercurydimeguymercurydimeguy Posts: 4,625 ✭✭✭✭
I read somewhere in the PCGS literature that when they are doing onsite grading at a show, the exact days of a show get added to all submissions. So a 5 day service that touches any 3 day show where they are doing onsite grading becomes 8 days, and so on.

I remember about 7 years ago or so I got hit with two shows in one month so they had the coins for like 24 business days (adding the weekends it was alike 6 weeks by the time I got them back).

Anyhow, I don't think they are slipping ... just their policy around onsite grading and response times.

    My 10 cents image

Are they still sending graders overseas for some of the new foreign grading sites they are opening?

So....I guess Economy service will be pushed out from 27 day average to maybe 2 months????

Whatever the decrease in wait times, I can't really imagine people paying to have volunteers who are learning how to grade on the job grading their coins. Of course, considering how... thrifty- yeah, that's the word- some people are, there might be a few. image

What I had in mind was either a grader or a finalizer giving his blessing as to whether a coin in another TPG slab would cross at grade or above or below grade. It just doesn't make sense to tie up the services of 2 experts on low dollar widgets.image

At what dollar level would you think experts should be involved?

Regular target: 15 business days 9 business days 14 business days

You must not have read the responses here! I have an express at 8 business days and someone else had a walk though at 4 days! Nonetheless, if the numbers were accurate its all the more reason to switch to Regular service.

Glad you got the laughing icon going, cause I'm laughing all the way to the bank on this one.
  • I am glad that you found something to complain about other than your previous 100 or so threads complaining about economy times. It is nice to have a little variety around here.

I said a finalizer or a grader, but not both so at least one expert should be involved. I guess you don't consider a finalizer to be an expert?image For low dollar coins [that have already been graded, hopefully by an expert] it makes sense to have an abbreviated grading process where one person's opinion should suffice.

AFAIK, right now "experts" are involved at all levels. Let's say I submit a NGC ms65 1883-O Morgan [for no other reason than I want it in a PCGS slab] for crossover. It should be adequate for one expert to say cross at grade or cross at G+1 or cross at G-1. I see no need to tie up the services of more than one expert on common widgets. The service would be for common coins already graded and of about $200 or less price guide value.

The service I use is driven by the value of the coin, which means I only use express if the value is over $3,000. Otherwise, I will wait for Regular service instead of ponying up the extra $$

No, I didn't mean that. I meant- what's the dollar amount where you think the current graders that are being used aren't needed?

My first post on the subject in this thread gave a value of $200 and under for common date coins in other TPG holders.
