Only two proofs known! One is in the Smithsonian. This is pretty darn cool for sure. What will it sell for, will it go into a cool registry collection, who is going after it....good fun! There are a number of lots I will be watching and this is one of them.

I have not heard great things about the relevant 1818 quarter in the Smithsonian and I will not assume it is a Proof before I see it. More importantly, there are no other known pre-1820 Proof quarters and no known pre-1820 Proof dimes or half dimes. As for pre-1820 Proof halves, I mention the three that have been certified as "Proofs" in my current article. None of these three are certified by the PCGS. I am not aware of any other, privately owned pre-1820 Proof U.S. silver coins. IMO, this Newman 1818 quarter is of tremendous importance. I have analyzed it in detail:

While the MS67 is a stellar coin, and even has a CAC sticker, I have trouble seeing it as that grade.
