Best way to clean brass?

I was going to use brasso but concerned that the paste may
not come out of the crevices.

Brasso is a polish with abrasives in it.

You have that other real nice example and this. This is the one to handle.

That looks like a lot of soaking and careful work to even get it back to a slightly discolored state.

I wonder how much can be removed to get it stabilized. I await others' responses to care.

I can't remember the name but there are liquids brass cleaner. I used on on my brass back
in the Army days in the 60's.

Yeah, I thought this one might make a neat pocket piece or.......leave it around the house

You could clean it with Brasso and then wash it with hot water and detergent to get any residue out of the crevices. Then, put it on a sunny windowsill to let it naturally retone. I can't think of any other way to help this medal. I doubt that soaking it in olive oil or mineral oil for a few decades will make that much of a difference.

You could make your own...a cup of ammonia and 8 cups of very warm water. Outside.

OK this is going to sound funny but it works take some ketchup and lemon juice, mix it together and soak the coin in it. Do this near a sink and check it frequently by rinsing it in hot water till you get what you are looking for. After this rinse the coin in mild soapy water and rinse againg under running hot water to clean the surface completely. While you are doing this hard boil 2 eggs and get a container you can seal. Dry the coin carefully and put it on a paper towel in the bottom of the container, peal the eggs while hot, eat the whites and take the yolks, crush them up and put them in the container making sure not to touch the coin and seal it. watch the coin as a patina will start to form and when it is a desired tone open and dry the coin. After a good long while a stronger natural patina will form on the coin to replace the accelerated one. Hope this helps as we use this for making jewelery for people with sensitive skin and works on silver and copper also.

Judging by the condition of this piece, I would use Brasso or Wright's (a good, liquid polisher for brass)... then an alcohol rinse followed by hot, running water... dry with a blow dryer. Cheers, RickO

I like this one as it has the "look I want" And I have various cleaners such as Brasso



Besides I want to have fun and and place it in a baggie outside and mess around with the gardeners head or my family members to see what happens

take it to your local jewelery store and have them put it in the sonic cleaner and all the loosely attached stuff will be gone and the coin will be much improved.

I have one of these, maybe I will try that first and then your other suggestion

oh flip the coin and if the eggs cool befor the color you want take the coin out and microwave the yolks put the coin back and recover.
