Mexico guys? School me on the 1914 Guerrero 1 & 2 Pesos?

Do I understand correctly that these contain gold and silver? Any thoughts, historical perspective you care to share? Why gold & silver?

The only reason why was because that was the material that they had. Guerroro is in Southern Mexico and it, like the rest of Mexico was caught up in the last of the many "revolutions" that finally brought full independence to Mexico ... rather than bands of fighting generals that controlled most of the country. Guerrero was controlled by Zapata and they minted coinage in 6-7 mints in Southern Mexico. Some coins were cast, but most were struck. For Guerroro, coins were from 3 centavos to 2 pesos. The peso was 1.000 fine Au/Ag, but weighed only .3 g, with the 2 peso the same fineness and weighed .6g. For comparison, pesos before the revolution of 1910-17 were .903 fineness AG and weighed 27.1 g. or nearly 100 times heavier/larger.
