To grade or not - toned morgans? Now with photos...

3stars3stars Posts: 2,282 ✭✭✭✭✭
I inherited about a dozen common date Morgans grading between AU50 and MS63. Obviously not worth grading as such, expcet that they spent the last 40 years in an old coin folder and have developed amazing full color toning, even on the circulated coins. 8 of the 11 have identical toning patterns. So, should I invest the money to have them graded and would it be worth it come resale time? Note that any scratches or hairlines are on the plastic slides, not the coins themselves.
Edit to add - I also have three uncirculated Barber dimes with great rainbow toning.

Some coins develop intense colors after being polished or cleaned prior to placement into albums or other display devices. If this is the case then you may end up with a bunch of coins in Genuine holders and this would likely hurt their value and perhaps your enjoyment, too. Images might help greatly.

There is no way to give you the advice you seek without seeing the coin in question.

I vote not. The toning is OK on some, unattractive on others, but not great on any.
Let's try not to get upset.

They're not bomb's and not unc either. Not worth your grading fees.

Think I would NOT send them in, just enjoy them the way they are and try to find more that have a
similar appearance like when a Walking Liberty set is put together in low grade and the coins have
the same look. To me that is just will maybe not just but a real nice set. All the same coins looking
alike is a feat in it's self. It shows how my time and effort was put into building it.

Pretty coins but not worth the expense of grading.
Yesterday some MS62 $5 Libs (NGC) sold at $416.

If the seller paid eBay 10% and PayPal 3%, he didn't come out
with a whole lot more than melt. (melt was $321.70)
He got 12.5% over melt for a spot free MS62 $5 Liberty.

When gold was $100 lower, these were $100 higher.

Can you put the obverse and reverse for each coin together.

You might not have the rainbow grading, but I see one VAM that May be of value. I need to see the obverse and reverse together though to confirm.

No particular year. I don't like to be wrong, so I don't want to say what I see.
