I'm no IHC expert but unless there was some reason for REALLY worn dies, it sure doesn't look MS to me.

I tend to play devils advocate, but I will have to agree with you....what is up with that grade!

I hesitate to pass judgement on a coin based on such lousy pics. I get the feeling it looks a lot better in hand.

Do you think only ugly overgraded coins are put in major auctions?

I'm surprised nobody has suggested it's a fake slab. Seems obvious. Fake slab to sell a poor coin for a high price.

The grading services make mistakes. They don't always get it right.
I've seen more egregiuos grades then this. Buy the coin not the plastic.

Another possibility is they have the wrong photo of the tag.

no, but i do think it's reasonable to assert ugly, over-graded coins are put up for auction because they are ugly and over-graded. this one clearly has issues. but, really, i was being facetious with my original comment.

I have a feeling that it's just the photo and that the coin actually looks pretty decent in hand.

Have to agree - was expecting some horrid coin - and did not really see it. Not a screamin' Gem, but can see where it could be much better in hand, spots aside.

S/B's images are often misleading and prior to sentencing this IHC based purely on images to a Monday or Friday graded coin it must be viewed in hand.

Judge the coin 'in hand', pictures can be misleading. Sure, could be overgraded, but condemnation based on a picture is premature. Cheers, RickO

Very unlikely from Stack's-Bowers, Heritage, or any major coin dealer. Some of my biggest profit flips have been
holding my nose and bidding on a coin that looks horrid in the photos, hoping that the grading company got it right
and it would be nice when seen in-hand. I bought several hundred coins on Teletrade in the late 1990s when their
photos were lacking, even making my objective to study the WORST looking coins based on the photos. I don't
remember ever returning one, as they were all OK or even nice...I tripled my money on a Grant that looked like it had
been in a fire from the photo but in hand the cabin and trees looked like a 3D Viewmaster image.

But then Teletrade improved their photos....

But Ricko, I thought "condemnation based on a picture" was standard operating procedure here.image

It doesn't look good, no- but for what it's worth, I can make an MS65 coin look like it's AU50 with my camera, lol.
The color scheme does raise concern, though- those colors look like the ones you'd get on a coin after some serious surface alteration.
    Wouldn't bid on it.
