<< <i>Question - I have Revier's book re Early Dollars. Has anyone read both Revier and Bowers comments re Early Dollars, because I'd like to know how Bowers amplifies, clarifies, or adds to Revier's work >>
Short answer - die states.
Long answer - The Reiver work is an expansion of Bolender's original work and retained all of the original numbering. Images were inline now instead of on plates. (I prefer the plates over the halftones myself). The Reiver edition added a lot more details to the original work. Bowers and Borckardt also includes die state information (for each Bolender #) and has references to the original #'s. Bowers & Borckardt also include a *ton* of other info, mintage deliveries, auction records, etc. for all dollars up to and including ASE's. Reivers work is 115 pages. The early dollar section alone in the BB book is over 200 pages.
