Lyn knight auction / Dr.Greg Pineda Philippine collection

I am surprised there were no comments on this monumental auction
of Philippine currency ultra rarities, and a massive coin collection
with many high grades and rarities. A registry set collectors dream.

Currency went crazy and the magnitude of the coin lots was overwhelming.
Lots of dealer bidding.

If you did not bid you missed a once in a lifetime opportunity to obtain
pieces that were gathered over 40 + years. I was able to win 4 lots but
others were unobtainable.

Any one participate/ have comments/ or experiences?

    I got only one.

Currency was strong on the floor while coins had a strong book.
  • I missed the opportunity, as I was away from our 10th anniversary. Our reservation was made way before the auction was announced . I guess I will have to wait for another time.

I bid on most of the coin lots and got less than my fair share. The 1907 Peso - arguably unique, and which I did not buy - was either a burial or a bargain at 165K hammer. Still trying to figure that one out.

  • Yes, it was the best auction of US Philippines I've ever seen, and I've been to many of them in Manila and Hong Kong. Lynn Knight did the US Philippine series of coins proud. The catalog was a keeper.

I wasn't there, but had a friend check out the goodies for me. I was a strong bidder on the lots I wanted, and still won less than half the lots I wanted. Congrats to Dr. Pineda on putting together a great collection.

There was definitely lots of nice coins in that catalog. I was considering a bid on either of the 1909-S Fifty Centavos in PCGS MS65 that were being sold. But since I couldn't see them in hand before the sale, I chose not to put in a bid. I think both of them sold for pretty strong money anyways so I'm not sure I would have been in the running anyways!!!

I thought that gold "Wilson Dollar" was pretty sweet looking too. image

I think I am working to hard.....I was not aware of the auction.....I would have bid.
I manage money. I earn money. I save money .
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

  • Dear Illini 420: Too bad, that 1909-S is a tough coin in any unc condition, and in gem unc is almost unknown. I hope you get another chance.

Dear Dietrich: I found out about it at the last moment, when a friend at Rare Coins of New Hampshire e-mailed me about the auction. They're good people.

    Warm regards from
