Henning is stated as having used a Monel alloy of 79.1% copper, 20.5% nickel, 0.4% iron. I recently had an early die state 1944 Henning (normal bar base on left leg of R, weight 5.0 grams) tested with a Thermo Specrtrometer and it was very close to this stated Monel alloy consisting of 79.1 copper, 20.8% nickel, 0.1% iron. Does anyone know of more about early die state Hennings?

what a 1st post...dropping in with a question on henning nickels
i'm still surprised they're legal to own
I have both types (looped and no looped R) and was always interested in what the deal was with the non-looped.

<< <i>here is a good read, relating to henning nickels and other early counterfeits, subsection d. is quite clear, we already know that henning made his nickels prior to the enactment of the law

I love it! It makes collecting these a little bit edgy!
