I would be surprised to see it in a holder.

I don't think the toning would keep it from gradeing.
I have seen many Kennedy halves in top holders that were alot more questionable than that.

Toning looks okay (NT/MA) to me.

Has it been cleaned though? Could just be the lighting, but it had that unnatural looking sheen to it.

That was my concern too. The color looks nice but I can't tell much else from those pics.
Spots on the reverse look almost like PVC damage.

From experience those put-together framed sets very, very often have harshly cleaned coins in them.

  • Hi..I have never cleaned this item, I took it out of a small framed set call "Strange But True" which detailed the Lincoln and Kennedy strange life issues....I got this set so many years ago I cannot remember when...its been on my wall that long...

It could- my bigger concern is the look of a film that looks to be pvc- but it just could be the lighting

  • To take the pics I used a old floppy disc Sony FD Mavica Camera, back in the day this took great pics, I am sure and know there are better camera out there, but I know how to work this one...I did not use much lighting except under a desk lamp where the light was not directly on the coin...

    Ditto

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Definitely looks like PVC on the reverse. Also plenty of hits on both sides, and can't tell if it's been cleaned or not from those pics.

Probably needs an acetone bath, whether you send it in or not.

I'm on the fence with this one...
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
  • sending this in to NGC. lets see what I get...
thanks to everyone for their time and comments...
I will post what if any grade I get back from NGC
    EPS
  • Virtually certain it will not grade. Colors like that come from artificial means.

Not my series, so I won't comment on the colors. A harsh cleaning is easy to spot on any coin, especially if it's uncirculated. Look for a lot of small parallel little hairlines that will be obvious to see when you rotate the coin in your hand. If you see this, don't bother to send it in. PCGS and NGC will bag virtually any harshly cleaned coin.

The coin IS NT. NGC will grade it 64 star. PCGS also 64, no star. Will look nice in holder and you can hold it. When for sale, there are some camera whizzes that will make the coin really appealing. No PVC damage there. Have several like it. ALL graded between MS 63-66. Good luck!

Acetone is exactly what I was going to suggest.

It looks much improved and I think it will grade.
