The first digital coin show, and my mistake

homerunhallhomerunhall Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭

In this week's Rare Coin Market Report video

link

I discuss this week's Long Beach Coin Show and talk about the "first digital coin show". I also tout the Heritage Long Beach auction.

I do the weekly report unrehearsed. They turn on the camera and I ramble. This week I made a huge numismatic error (pretty embarrassing) when describing the Heritage highlights.

Free walk thru submission to the first person who posts the error hrh made when making a fool of himself on camera. Some expert!!!!!!

The 1797 half disme should be 1792

Honestly, I liked the presentation, and did not notice much “rambling”.

I think that it is great that the time is taken to put up these videos and I am personally exited about the “digital coin shows”.

Pretty embarassing...and very obvious judging by how quick Mr. Wienberg caught it. Of course, Fred's one of the great coin experts of all-time.

I am a professor of mathematics with numerous publications and 30 years of college teaching experience. I don't want to think about how many times I've made mistakes at the board in front of 20 or 30 teenagers. On the other hand, as a student, I was always appreciative of errors made by my instructors. Those occasional errors conferred a humanity on my instructors while absolving me of my own sins.

    Good night, all .....

    David -

I'll tell you the same thing I tell my 10 year old son......

"It's ok to make mistakes. Everyone makes them. Just try not to make dangerous mistakes and never make the same mistake twice!"

Your's wasn't dangerous, so just don't do it again! image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Ah ... nothing like the eyes and ears of students. One of the presentations I give my pharmacy students (I teach applied mathematics, aka pharmacokinetics) is about math errors. To drive home the relative consequences of their errors, I compare what it means to be 99% accurate as a pharmacy student ... you earn an 'A+' ... if you are 99% accurate as a pharmacist ... you are incompetent and people are harmed. The gravity of errors are all a matter of context.

Kudos to David for making a contest of "spot the error!" image

I think HRH's playing this wrong. He should have said that he makes at least one mistake at every speaking event (live or recorded) just to make sure everyone's paying attention.

Or he should record a flawless one and offer a common-date MS65 Saint to whoever finds the mistake image
