Thread for POOR PEOPLE like me - Post the MOST AMAZING WOWWW EYE APPEAL COOL COIN you have that cost

keyman64keyman64 Posts: 15,499 ✭✭✭✭✭
There are so many amazing coins posted on these forums. Commonly, they are shown with beautiful photographs and have enormous price tags associated with them. A few months ago and then again just last week, I acquired a couple of really fun coins that bring a smile to my face. I think I got good deals on both and a little bit of luck certainly helped but the deals are out there for beautiful beautiful coins. Sometimes they are just neat toners. Sometimes they are coins with a BIG WOW FACTOR such as an error. Sometimes it is a combination. Commonly it is a cheaper coin that brings the Wow Factor and a lot of PRIDE to a collection. These coins just plain make you feel good. Over the past week I have been thinking about this and how I want to find more coins that bring me this amount joy.

Just to be clear, this thread is NOT about a cherrypick or getting a rip etc. It is about something that brings you great joy and pride and hopefully has that special WOW FACTOR, below the $100-ish price level.

I do not want to post mine AGAIN this week, that is not what this thread is about. I want to see yours. If you have a story associated with it, please share. image

Ex LeeG. Missed it on eBay, but it was on the BST shortly after for the same price.

Purchased in an NGC MS67 holder (and later crossed to PCGS MS67) at a Long Beach show over ten
years ago not long after I got back into the hobby. Paid somewhere around $90.

It's called "tissue toning" from contact with tissue paper. You don't see it come out like that very often!

I just replied to another thread about making fun purchases when coins for my main collection aren't available.
These are some of those fun purchses that became keepers.
    All much less than $100.00

$4 bucks a piece, bought the best 12 for $36 a few years back.
Common dates, but hey they're all FSB's. Guy had come in with album sleves
the day before. One was a 1942P over 1 in Unc. that was housed in a Capital holder
and was way outa reach. I'm happy with this small group of common Winged Liberty dimes.

This PCGS MS67 steel cent cost me $100 and I like it way better than most of the MS68 examples that I've seen go for 15x-25x that price:

One day I hope to put together the nicest set of steel cents together that I can, in PCGS MS66/67. That is a fine looking example. Nice job!

I love this coin and sure I paid less than the $46 PCGS Price Guide price when I bought the coin. Probably $25 to $30 .

I don't remember where this one came from, but I am sure I paid under $10 for it.

Ummm, I understand LeeG may be more popular, but truth be told that coin is 'Ex 66RB' image. I had that coin for a few years and Lee had it for a few months. But alas, I did not, nor will I ever, give names to coins.

This should get coppercolor's blood pressure up, cost me around $70 in an NGC MS66BN holder, now PCGS MS66BNimage

I really need to learn to take photos... This is the best I could do with my phone image

    image

Picked this up on the bay from a forum member. I can't remember what I paid for it, but the seller was not happy. If memory serves me correct I told him to keep the coin (Because the hammer dropped a lot lower than he was hoping for). He held up his end of the deal and sent the coin with a request that if I ever decide to sell to give him the first crack at it.

Edited to put the correct coin perspective in here, I do not want to be the cause of any heart attacks out there image
