Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

so I decided to open a 58 football cello tonight , grades posted

this is the 3rd one I have opened. I needed a couple cards to finish a submission so figured what the heck The other 2 were not very successful. The 1st 2 packs were not holdered by psa for some reason due to the size of the tear although I have seen worse in holders. this pack was holdered a psa 5 and was a nightmare to crack it open

and then there was this ,

Real nice centering on those, Duncan! Congrats on a terrific pull on the Unitas...that card should grade high!

Very nice pack and should come back a nice grade. Unless you get one of the graders that just seems to enjoy throwing EOT grades on cards pulled directly from packs.

So nice to see someone pull a monster card in a vintage rip!

    "Molon Labe"

  • Congrats! Congrats! Congrats! Thank you for sharing. I agree with someone above, that is one of the nicest rips in a long time. Please let us know the grades after submission. I cannot wait to find out what the Unitas grades.

Very nice Unitas, and some sweet looking commons too.

So put your grading hat on and tell us your honest (not with your heart) grade of the Unitas.

Edited to add: Does Unitas go in the submission, or does he get a faster service level? (assuming the sub is a monthly special)
  • packCollectorpackCollector Posts: 2,786 ✭✭✭
    thanks guys,

Nam, the card is probably an 8 because of the top to bottom centering. the back is just as clean with no white showing at all on the red back. the upper right corner is perfect , the scan looks like it is a little off but it is not. the card could be an 8.5(probably should be) if an 8.5 is truely a super high grade 8 but I think that grade is too inconsistently used. In this case , it would make a huge difference. I'll probably send it on a 5 day sub this weekend.

I love the cars in the background of the Brettschnieder card. It looks like some friends got together out in their back yard to make pictures or something. Nice pulls!

2nd best pull you can have, behind the Brown rookie! Congrats!
  • Sweet pull! I love seeing this happen, it just gives me reassurance that at least a few, truly untouched packs still exist.

Congrats, I almost had a #2 in my underpants when seeing it.

Here are the results, the unitas was sent in on a faster service which ironically took longer.

Unitas graded an 8. really makes me wonder what the purpose of the 1/2 grade is , if that card can not get an 8.5 , i am not sure what should.

overall pretty happy although I was hoping to pull a 9 as they go for big bucks. still a profitable break, the cards below not including the unitas pretty much paid for the pack.

bosseler, doran and the resdskins came from the other 2 dud packs that were not holdered by psa which I opened

Man ... I agree with the "Unitas graded an 8. really makes me wonder what the purpose of the 1/2 grade is , if that card can not get an 8.5 , i am not sure what should" comment.

Looks like an "8" would bring in ~$900.00. However, a "9" sold for over SIX GRAND 2.5 years ago.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.

looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started

  • Nice rip!!!! Ththe Unitas was fantastic!

Come on now guys! You have to know the 1/2 grade thing was nothing more than a money grab by psa to sucker people into playing the resub game.
  • Maybe they see something we don't but that's at least an 8.5......resub or even better, maybe 4 sharp corners will resub it for you for a nominal fee.
