Is it me or is Ediquette going to He!! in a handbasket around here ?

Morning,

Two instances in the last couple of days.

#1. Long time ago, Poster here expresses interest in something, I didn't have then, have found recently, so he Immediatly jumps on thread saying he'll take Two ! I base my purchase from my source on this info, then same Buyer sends PM, says 'No changed mind, I'll take one". So when I get them in hand I PM and say time to pay, he PM's back, changed mind again...Don't want any!

# 2. Poster tells me long time ago to let him know if I get a certain something. I do, send PM, wait days no answer. Send second PM, finally get answer yesterday, Yes interested, what's your price? As I am getting ready to list them on E-Bay tell him my E-Bay price and what I'll give them to him for, via PM. This is yesterday morning, So I purposely don't list them on E-Bay in case he wants them. Wait all day because I want to get them listed and no reply. He comes on here this morning and bumps his own Sell Thread, but can't take 30 seconds to tell me Yes or No!!

Shheesh!!!!!!!!

    Hi Neil,

Board etiquette/basic politeness/acting like a responsible adult have always been items on my pet peeve list. I figured out years ago to use the "ignore" list on this site. Anyone who does that to me, or I see or hear about them doing it to others--I say nothing and just go straight to add that person to the "ignore" list, so they can never contact me by PM and I won't have to deal with them at any time, ever.

When perusing the BST boards, if I see something that I collect (and I collect ALOT), I first check my ignore list on the messages page--and if that person is on it--I won't buy or even offer anything to them. Just go on to the next thread.

I've had hundreds of transactions on this board--and only ONCE have I had a real problem. Of course, that one person is now on the ignore list, so I have no idea if they ever contacted me again--and don't have to care either. They can type and press "send" to send me a PM--but it does not arrive and instead vanishes into an internet black hole. If they check their "history" of messages, it also will have vanished into nothing as soon as they hit "send", so even they would no longer have a record of that PM.

Sorry about your recent troubles here. If not already using, I recommend the "ignore" list here as a good tool to avoid headaches. Works even better than the eBay "Block" list, as they can not contact at all once added to the list.

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

Yes, there are a lot of lowballers and people with bad manners here, but you just have to weed them out because they're far outweighed by the good board members.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, Neil

All we really have in this world is our word. We can fluff and puff and prune and preen all we want, but when push comes to shove, your word is all that matters. You can have all the cash, the fancy cars, the big house and the hot wife with the $30K boob-job, but if you can't honor your word, you're worthless.

One thing I learned years and years ago is that second chances for someone that doesn't honor their word is only given by suckers.

I'd ask Neil to out them or at least PM me, but it has gotten to the point that I really don't do any business on here anymore. The last 10 deals I've done, the only three made it to fruition. SEVEN board members made excuses as to why they changed their minds or couldn't be bothered to pay. And some of you wonder why I type with a caustic tone? Perhaps because some of the more active loudmouths won't pay their bills and keep on yapping on the boards like they're a gift from the Almighty... And to the next person that says give them a break, they're only kids . . . shut up or you pay their bills!!!

So, to answer your question Neil, I think it must be YOU, because most of them couldn't spell "etiquette" if you spotted them the "e" and the "d," er, um . . . nevermind... image

Finally...one time well this time I'm innocent or is that not guilty...I think...
  • Education + Etiquette = Ediquette
  • Between buying and selling transactions, I have completed probably close to 100 transactions on this board- and other than one goofy PM exchange with a board member who wanted to play cat-and-mouse with me over a card for some reason (no deal was ever finalized), I have never experienced anything remotely like either scenario you are describing.

Have to agree with the OP, but not so much on collecting, where I have had pretty good luck, but in the "real world" where there seems to be a lack of what used to be called common courtesy.

One of the best is when you get in line to check out at the grocery store and the people in front of you are still shopping, and in no great hurry to get their last purchase or three up to the counter.

I won't even get into my experience at the Post office today. THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE WAITING IN LINE.

I know if someone was nice enough to find something for me that I asked for a "long time ago" I would do my very best to buy the item, or at least show some appreciation with a quick reply. If it wasn't too expensive, I would probably buy it even if I no longer "needed" it.

Neil, I don't know if I was the second culprit that got you riled up and I know what you are saying but to my defense I was in the middle of moving a 2600 square foot house by U haul two hours away, and then putting most of it in a storage shed ( that I will get to move again very soon) and was lucky just to have a couple of minutes to check my computer. image

Etiquette exists everywhere. We (yes, I am including myself in this) just fail to use it at times. I know I've forgotten to get back to people in a timely manor on more than one occasion so this is something I will work on. But I do try to respond to everyone. If I have failed to respond to someone here I do appologize. But the 2 instances that Neil gave are unacceptable.

And I'm guessing that one of the culprits is a very regular poster who is admitting his guilt by conspicuously being absent from the thread although he manages to chime in on almost everything else, regardless if he has a clue or not.

Common courtesy is very simple. Treat people the way you want to be treated and if you don't, be prepared for the wrath. I give quite a few here a hard time about things, but most often when they post nonsense about something they have less than a hint of knowledge about. But knowing that, they are also people that I have little interest in dealing with even though I'm sure I could find some closet sludge that would suit their wants. Dollars and cents are hardly worth the inevitable aggravation.

I do realize that perhaps my "attitude" has kept others from dealing with me, but in the scope of things, I haven't lost any sleep over it. I'd rather send someone something for free and have them enjoy it than sell it to someone else that is going to be a royal pain in the arse...

Now, if only we could find a way to deactivate the "dolt magnet" that Neil seems to have working against him, then all will be right in the world...
