Thoughts on grade for 86 Jordan

I purchased a 1986 Fleer set during the BBCE black Friday sale, and received the set today. I was curious what the board members thought the Jordan would grade. I plan on keeping the rest of the set raw.

I think your looking at a PSA 6 or PSA 7. Tough to tell without the card in hand. Thats pretty typical centering for Jordan RC's. I have seen many 9's with that centering, so that wont kill you.
  • I guess 6. Chipping will keep it out of anything much higher IMHO.

I have many, many PSA 7 cards that are nowhere near as good as that card. I also agree with an earlier post on the centering. I have many PSA 9's with similar centering. The bottom corners are clearly bumped slightly so I think 7 is the max. Any crease or wrinkle would put the max at 4. If it comes back at 4, you missed a wrinkle. If it comes back at 5 or 6, it would be a good candidate for cracking and re-subbing. 6.5 or 7 would seem fair. - Kevin
  • Id say PSA 7. Definitely not 8 but better shape that 6's that Ive seen. 6. Solid 7. Nice card either way. Great card to own.
  • Centering will not be an issue.

    Good Day PSA 7
    Bad Day PSA 6

good luck, and tell us how you do. I just sent one in for a friend expecting an 8, but it was a good day and is in a PSA 8.5 slab.

Corners and chipping land it in a 6.5. GOOD LUCK!!!

Three corners touched = PSA 6
Currently working on: Kurt Warner PSA 9 or 10

I agree; three corners touched and off centered so PSA 6. I would treat anything more as a gift.

    Good luck!

Those two bottom corners look like they're separated from the cardstock a bit. If so, 5; 6 on a good day.

I almost want to say "fake" because of the nearly perfect symmetical front-back centering!!! Kinda rare on the 86 cards image

    My guess... PSA 5.5

6 wouldn't surprise me, but anything higher absolutely would

  • Guys,

Thanks for the input. My initial expectation was a 6 or 6.5, with hope of a 7. It will be sent in tomorrow with a 5 day turnaround. Will post a scan when it gets home.

  • Should be a 7, but might have to live with a 6.5
  • looks like a 6 or 6.5 but good luck! Hoping for a 7 for you.

Assuming there are no wrinkles you could eventually get it into a PSA 7 slab if you keep cracking and resubbing. Here's another 7 for comparison:

The absolute worst this card will ever be is a 6. Anybody who says 5-5.5 hasn't subbed very many 86 Fleer. This is what a 5 looks like:

  • I received the card in the mail today. Will probably list the card after the holidays, and upgrade to a well centered 7.5 or 8.

I was going to say that it would definitely, without question, get a PSA 6.5. image

Actually, I was going to say that it had a good shot at a 7, but could get a 6. PSA 5? Only with the grader of death!
