But seriously, did anyone go out this morning to shop (either for cards or not for cards)? Any success/horror stories?

Mike ... I think I will be staying away from all shopping today. Going to try to finish cleaning up the leaves in the yard. Probably 150 - 200 large leaf bags each year, so I'll be happy when I am finally finished! Do you get more people than usual in your card store today?

Today is historically a slow day because everyone is trying to get the rock-bottom deals at the big box retailers; I do run sales, but people can come to me anytime they want during the holiday season and get around the same deal.

On the leaves front: My house used to have one huge oak tree in the front year, one regular oak and two huge split oaks in the back yard, and some other assorted trees. With my trees and the trees of my neighbors, we used to have TONS of leaves. It was a nightmare every year, so I can empathize. However, last year we had the one in the front yard and one of the split oaks in the back taken down, so this year has been very nice for us

Went to Dick's Sporting Goods and picked up a Cleveland CG16 60 degree wedge, marked down to $99 plus had a $25 off coupon.

Do you mount those on a wall in their holders or show them on a shelf?

The Steelers one is for a friend, a real nut of a fan he has the fatheads, Steelers curtains, etc.

I probably just place it on my wall shelf in the holder behind some graded Phillies cards and signed balls.

After 45 Yrs in retail I stayed away from any all places of buisness............I even ran out of wine and went without!!!!!!I watched MLB a good amount of the day.Some great stuff on.Classic World Series Games.I wish they could show the Old Home Run Derbys from 1959/60 that ESPN ran as a marathon during one Holiday a few years back.

My wife and I have done the Black Friday sales for years (ever since we got married). We do it now as more of a tradition than anything. It is fun standing in the cold drinking Starbucks and chatting with other people. There is also the entertainment of the crazies. We go with the attitude of we get what we get and have fun. We started with Target at midnight. Then went to Kohl's, Bonton, Toys R Us, JCP, Boscov's, Dick's, Staples, & Michael's. We actually got everything we wanted with pretty much no hassle at all. It was a great time.

I love the old World Series videos. I watched the '84 show this afternoon. Still can't believe Dick Williams let Goose pitch to Gibson after he initially told him to walk him. Great stuff having all of those guys mic'd up back then.

Yea....I got everything I wanted, but it was a total nightmare checking out. People were breaking in line, and at HH Gregg, you had to get a sales associate to write you up, even though you knew what you wanted. Therefore, the people early in line, weren't necessarily to first people to check out. Fights almost broke out. Instead of letting the people get into groups, they allowed 300+ people into the store all at the same time. Total chaos!

That shall forever remain my favorite Kirk Gibson home run. "He don't wanna walk you! He don't wanna walk you!" Gibby sure had a flair for the dramatic!
