Stan provided me one of my most memorable hobby experiences...
My dad and I got to sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame while he played Harmonica....I know that's something he does or did on a semi-regular basis, but I didn't know about it back then (early 90s) and we both thought it was way better than the autograph we were waiting in line for.
<< <i>Matt, what's his health status? Is he ever going to do in-person signings again or is he too fraile at this point? >>
His days of doing shows are long gone. He is still doing private signings and going into his office as much as he can. His autograph has taken a beating over the last 18 months. Its really not good in comparison to what it used to look like. I was hoping to have the Musial RC that I have for sale on the BST boards, signed a couple weeks ago, but the gentleman handling the signing for me elected not to put my card in front of Stan due to his shakiness at the time of the signing. I don't think Stan will be with us for much longer.
+1 for the person handling the signing for you, for not taking a chance with your card.
Also that will be a sad day when "the man" is no longer here. I know you are a huge fan of his, and so am I. I have never seen him play or met him in person, however I have the up most respect for him for the way he has treated his fans over the years. My son has a dream of making it to the nhl and I have always encouraged him. I have also told him if he ever does make it to the nhl, or even if he doesn't, to make sure he treats people the same way that Mr. Musial has. In short Stan is and was a great role model.
