    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    I though my PCGS AU 55 looked great ( CAC ) but
    your's is easily much nicer !! Congrats !!

    Go for the Gold CAC !!

    I was going to say MS62, so AU58 appears to be conservative. Great originality and eye appeal!

    I think why PCGS graded it as an au58 is because it has a very few short wispy hairlines that aren't strong enough for the 'hairline genuine grade', but probably drops an ms60 to ms62 coin (which is what this coin technically grades IMHO) to an AU58. (you can see 2 short wispy hairlines just in front of the neck in the field).

    A significant rim ding at 12 on the obverse may have to do with
    the grade.
