OT: Anyone Have A Salt water Aquarium

I have a 75g yellow tang, hawaiian squirrel, some damsels, pencil urch, clown, shrooms that i can think of off the top of my head.
If you got one fresh or salt, please share.

FOR THE RECORD--I tried to spell salt water correctly, but I got a message saying i used a "bad" word. So thats why I spaced it out.

.................................firgure it out yet? salT WATer ....(in caps) seriously how it pulled that word out of salt water is beyond me.

Seriously, I couldnt make this Shnit up if I wanted to.

I play around with a 12 gallon nano salt water. Im seriously considering going up to a 60 gallon cube. Right now, I have 2 clowns and a Mandarin Goby. Before I lost all my fish to a multi day power outage. I had 2 clowns, mandarin goby, scooter blenny, 6 line wrasse, and one other fish I forgot the name of but nothing rare or expensive. I have also had shrimp, hermits, urchins, starfish. What ever you do, dont ever have a 6 line wrasse if you dont want all your snails and starfish eaten LOL...but they are great for eating small fireworms and bristleworms. I dont do much with reef plants because I dont have the appropriate lighting for them to survive.

Mandarin is a beautiful fish. You have good taste. Scooter, 6 line. Some good looking fish. I had a cleaner shrimp (big bright red with white stripes, not peppermint). Up and disappeared one day. Yes it would molt, and I would find the "shell". But this time nothing, he just vanished. I searched all around the tank, in the stand, skimmer, lifted every rock. Just up and gone. Everytime I see that car insurance commercial where the guy is eating his daughters fish, I think of him. He was Badass! I had a few stars but my emeralds would get to them. I would come down stairs in the morning, turn on the morning light and my stars would be missing "legs". Power outages SUUUUUUCK! I live in Ohio and thats a big fear of mine. I need to hook up a generator. You ever visit any fish sites?

I had a 80 gallon reef tank for a few years. Wet dry filter with bio balls, protein skimmer, actinic lighting, the works. Had a variety of corals, anenomes and fish, including mandarin gobys, clown fish, royal gammas (fairy baslets) and a bunch of others.
It was really nice and I really enjoyed it, but after spending a month diving in Indonesia and seeing 5' versions of the corals I was strugging to keep going I decided that it wasn't for me and I'd rather enjoy things in their native environment.
Still wish I had the tank though, and think one day I'll put one together again. It really doesn't take that much time if you stay on top it of on a regular basis, but the costs can easily get out of control if you let them.

  • Sorry I forgot ......bristleworms. When I was looking for my cleaner shrimp, I lifted up a rock and there a was a four inch bristleworm. I ran to the kitchen got a plastic container and got him out. He was a fat SOB. I took pics. You have any brittle stars? How long your nano been established. Live rock? How many pounds?

I hear that alot, "wish I still had it". Cost wise, when I first set it up I was getting water from the local pet store (LPS) at about 1.00 a gallon. For those not familiar with salt - water (lol) you need to do water changes. Take out 15% of the water and adding new. I had a company install a water filtration system in the kitchen of my house. I fill the water up in a 5 gallon bucket and put a aquarium heater in the bucket. Throw in some Instant Ocean Sea Salt, takes about 2 hours to heat up.
