If Your Going To Lie To Me, Try To Do A Better Job --eBay Seller

I just dont believe this guy is being honest with me. After sending him a 3rd email today about an auction I won and was "shipped" on the 11th, I finally get this response after threatening negative feedback.

"Hey bud, I am sorry I have not responded. My mother has been in the hospital for the past 2 weeks and I have been staying there with her mostly. I shipped the cards out this past monday, and I received them back saying invalid Zip code ( it was my fault left it off the package) I reshipped them yesterday and you should have them by tomorrow/ Monday at the lastest. Sorry about that. I did add tracking and I will add it to the site tonight."

My first email I told him he had better of added tracking for his own sake. I know the post office would of delivered it without a zip code. They have big books that has every city and their zip code.

Even more than that, if it was a window transaction then the PO clerk has to punch in the zip code, no way they could have missed it. Seems like you have a pathetic seller and a liar on your hands.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you there.
  • Im saying the post office would have looked in there book and found the zipcode, instead of returning it to sender as he states.

They would never do that, they just return it sender.
  • If I had a $1 for every seller that had slow shipping due to unexpected relative hospital stays... quite the phenomenon if you ask me.

Not sure why- but I think the guy is telling the truth. When you get the package, check to see if there is any evidence of it being stamped return to sender (due to the lack of zip code).

It always has something to do with health. Once I had someone tell me they couldn't pay for a card because his son died in a car accident and he needed all the money to pay for the funeral.

what would happen if both the buyer and the seller were in the hospital? Would it make a sound?
  • What I would do is leave positive feedback (if you get your item as described but be honest and say "buyer took 2 weeks to get item to me because of his own fault" or "slow shipper - would not do business with again" and leave it at that. I dont think negative is necessary even though hes a moron.

I recently had my own ebay horror story. I purchased a card and not only did it get to me on the 11th mail day after purchasing it immediately after auction ended but they switched the card to on off center card. OMFG - Was I upset. I wrote to the guy and told him not only fif I have to wait 11 days but that the card was swapped and this wanst the same card in the scan. I told him I wanted $7 out of the $16 I paid to make up the difference for this off center card (because I wouldn't have paid $16 for it - that's for sure.

He writes back giving me some sob story about how the person who sends out the mail had "her first baby" and that mail was backed up because of that. Hows that my problem - I dunno. Sooo ummm why were other people who purchased after me got there items and leaving feedback then? BTW - They had so much negative and neutral but so many transactions that the positive made up the difference and outweighed the negative stuff (but still, it was a lot within the past 6 month)

Anywho, he offers me a full refund including shipping but i respond that I don't want to deal with them anymore than I had to and wait another 2 weeks so he ignores it that email and I go ahead and leave negative feedback. Of course that gets his attention. So he now wants to write back how he wants me to retract my negative feedback but I tell him hes a shaddy ebayer and once I get my $7 back - Ill retract the truth. He starts saying that I'm "extorting him" and continues using that word because ebay obviously has a thing against extortionist. I wrote that I'm not and that I want him to do the right thing. Long story short, I tell him that I'm not going to retract until I feel that this has been taken care of and I personally mentioned that he needs to be made an example of. I also tell him that the "ebay police" has better things to do than to look at some "extortionist" for a measly $7.00 when they have better things to do.

He finally refunds my $7 and as I promised I retracted and we went our separate ways. Don't be scared to leave negative feedback for the sellers. Most buyers don't know this but if youre not happy with the seller, you can leave negative feedback but they cant for you - Why? Because you paid so how can you possibly get a negative as a buyer for that? You cant and wont so do what you have to do - but make sure you be nice so you can get your card/item first.

In my early years of eBaying, I used to send out checks to people I bought from. 1 time, I actually forgot to put a stamp on it. It came back for some reason, 3 days later, instead of the next day. The Guy lived on the west coast and I live near Chicago. I sent the Guy an E-mail stating that I forgot the stamp. The P.O. stamped the envelope with "Insufficient Funds" so I placed a stamp next to it. The Guy then sent me a Non-paying bidder thingy through eBay and I told him it was in the mail. He eventually received the payment and never said a word.

Shzit happens...But I do agree that it happens way to often for some. I have sold quite a bit and had the same E-mail about the Hospital and Family.

    Paul.

    Later, Paul.
  • Cards arrived today. No evidence on the envelope about being returned like he stated.

The cards were loose in a Ziplock bag. One card was not even in a top loader, just a penny sleeve. At least they were in a padded mailer.

  • Glad you got your cards. About the "Hospital" it could be true, my mother was in and out of the hospiat a dozen times this year alone and she passed away in the hospital just recently, so it could be true, people do have personal problems to deal with.

It may be true, hard to tell. Or at least half true. Maybe his mother is in the hospital and he forgot to mail the cards and he said that they were returned to him so it would look better.

At least you got the cards. That's better than some seller's story about family members getting murdered.

    +1
You never know about these things. People do have issues in life. I tend to give people the benefit of thew doubt in these cases. Do some people make up stories? Yes, but sometimes people really do have family in the hospital and dealing with baseball cards may not always be top priority.

Well if you think he is outright lying, by not leaving him a negative you are just allowing him to continue to do this to others. If this person was at all legit about the whole hospital thing if there was any shipping charge involved he should be offering to refund at least the shipping.

About no zip code, a large majority of USPS workers will not take the time to look up a zip code, so yeah they will return to sender more often than not in this case.

Really though neg him and hit his stars if you are sure he is lying.
  • Toro:

It was THAT disappointing. To swap a card - You could of been his next buyer. That's just not cool. I wouldn't of paid $16 for the card I received to begin with.

He just didn't want negative feedback. Plus the fact that it took 11 mail days to get my card didn't make him look any better. I'm sure you or anyone here doesn't think it should take 5 mail days or more to get a card in the mail if its done right. I'm sure after 4 days of mail and still not receiving, you're thing "WTF" - now imagine 11 days and then the card is switched from the one that was in the picture. Not good business.

  • In February my father passed away. He had an ebay store and I checked his computer and he had three or four things that needed to be shipped. So, I contacted the buyers and let them know the situation and I sent them the items they bought. My dad got a negative from one buyer for slow shipping. Then she sent an email trying to get my dad to send her more stuff and if he would, she would remove his negative. I asked my dad about this, and since he didn't seem to care about his ebay feedback anymore at this point, I basically told her to pound sand. But, this is one of those cases where the actual story is legit.

    Sir,

I am just returning from an emergency visit to my parents. My mother has cancer and it took a turn for the worse. I will refund your extra payment. I understand your frustration and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Ok, if thats the case, in this day and age, internet access is everywhere, even peoples phones. Why cant the seller simply butt dial me and leave a quick note. Why is it after the 3rd email (again) when I threaten negative feedback, thats when i get a response.
