1984 Topps vending boxes

Does anyone think buying a few 1984 Topps vending boxes from BBCX for $20 each and socking them away would be a decent investment? Since they would come shrink wrapped and stickered, there is the "seal of approval" when the time would come to sell. On the other hand, there is a lot of unopened product from that era out there.

  • No, do not buy modern era wax for investment. Buy them for enjoyment

Sounds like good advice. If they're only worth $20 after all these years, there's just too much out there.

I have a 84 topps BB vending case I have been sitting on since 1984. Is basically worth now what my dad paid for it in 1984.

Like previous statements made, buy these for the enjoyment. For myself, I recently purchased 5 of these through BBCE and opened 2 of them to make a set and put the other 3 away. For $20.00 each though, you really cant go wrong if you buy a few of them and sit on them. How much can they lose in the future??? They are already pretty cheap. Good luck!!!!!

84 Topps sets were selling for $10/each at the Chantilly show. I just dont have the room, or I would have picked up a few.

  • Very low risk, very low reward.

Remember that when the time comes to sell them, unless you can find a local buyer you'll have to pay fees and pay shipping costs- which will significantly eat into your profit (if you made a profit).

Thanks all for the comments. I remember not too long ago (maybe 6 years) buying 1978 and 1979 rack packs for about 1/2 of what they go for now. I guess the difference is the supply of those is starting to dwindle whereas the 1984 stuff isn't going anywhere.

  • 1984 not worth it. I'd say that 1983 would be a good year for an investment. A few good Rookies.
