Unofficial discussion about a 1975 mini case break

This isn't the official thread (someone else can start that ), I just didn't want to bury this post in a thread titled 1972 box break.

As I read the other thread it looked to me like some people are thinking they'd have to buy a full box in a 1975 mini case break. Unless I am misremembering, last time there was a 1975 mini case break it was about the participants committing to as many packs as they wanted (unless they wanted a full box) out of the 576 packs available.

For this one, if you limit the packs to 12 per person to start, you would make the rip available to 48 participants minimum, and probably more like 100 as most will not buy 12 packs. After a few days or a week you can remove the 12 pack limit if you're having trouble selling out the full case.

Obviously I don't speak for Steve Hart, but if you could get him to do 13% off, that would be an even 20K for the case. At 20K that would be $34.72 per pack + whatever he always charges to do all the shipping.

Just think of the decorative bar top you could create from all those 1975 mini wrappers.

  • Great idea... I would be able to do 12 for sure but not a whole box.

  • I think I would be in for either 12 or a whole box but would prefer the box.

Whoever runs the break will probably try to avoid that so that many people can participate instead of just a few.

Cool. If a full box option becomes available, I'm in.

I think the 12 pack limit is a good idea to start but to sell it out we'll probably need to raise that before long, at least that's what I'd expect.

  • I just spoke to Steve this morning and half the case has been taken.

that sucks that it's aleady been broke... any chance we could get the other 1/2?

I'm sure we could sell out half the case. I agree the 10% discount is as low as Steve is going to go.

  • Hello!
OK, here is where we stand on the 75 mini case.

I had been speaking to someone about the case who was intersted in it almost immediately after we posted it. This was pretty much before the boards even considered breaking it. Well, we agreed this morning to sell this person exactly half the case (8 boxes). I also sold a full box from the case too off the website.

Therefore we have 7 boxes left fresh from this case. I pulled the case and the loose boxes off the website. I will make these 7 boxes available to the group rip at the usual 10% off ($1290.00 per box). Just have someone keep me informed if the sign ups begin and the 7 boxes get sold.

    Thanks! Steve Hart
  • so that leaves us 252 packs to sell... anyone want to set this up?

I want 2 boxes. It appears other people want boxes as well.

If there's going to be a pack limit, then I'll go get others to sign up for the packs.

I guess the doom and gloom on mini box prices following the sale of the conlon collection has now been put to rest

<< <i>I'll be watching this one but would suggest allowing people to buy a whole box.

It's nice having an unopened box vacuum sealed with the BBCE wrap and ID card.

Maybe allow 4 of the 7 to be purchased as boxes and leave the rest as packs only.

    Enjoy! >>

For those who want full boxes, there may be another alternative. I have it one reasonably good authority that
there will be a full sealed case coming onto the market in January via one of the auction houses. Perhaps those
who want boxes can bid together for that case and do a box break, leaving the remaning BBCE boxes available
    for pack breaks????

Why do that when there is no guarantee of acquiring those boxes? I'd suggest the opposite.

I vote no on that since multiple people have already expressed interest in an entire box.

it would be nice if we could allow multiple people in on this I know for sure I can't do a full box so it would be nice to either get 1/2 or 1/3 of a box.

I understand what you're saying, but there are also multiple people expressing interest in entire boxes & aren't interested in individual packs. Usually there's just a box or 2 being ripped so this isn't an issue.

Because the pricing at auction just after Christmas might be a hell of a lot lower. People will be a bit
"tapped out" due to the holidays. Plus, if the group bid failed I could probably make available several
full boxes as a back-up plan. So there would be very little to lose and potentially a lot to be gained
in terms of lower cost if the auction bid is successful.

I don't get it. Why doesn't anyone who wants to buy a box just call BBCE and buy a box?? What is this, Russia?

By the way, there's an awful lot of this 1975 mini stuff lying around, huh?

  • I am a nobody here, but I would agree with RB. If people are interested in full boxes, they should get priority...

Edited to add I have no skin in this game as I could only afford a few packs myself.

I think a one box limit should be in effect for the first 24 hours. The purpose of a "group" rip is to try and give everyone interested an opportunity to participate.

I have no interest in this, but I agree with Ron. If people want to buy a box, they should be able to- right now. I know Steve held the last 7 boxes for a rip, but come on, that's a lot of packs to reserve for a group rip. Christmas is close and I have a hard time believing selling 7 boxes via packs will happen. If someone has the funds to purchase a box right now, they should be able to do it, especially if they're a vintage collector and not a fairweather ripper like me and others.

  • Hey guys!

I dont have any boxes left to sell! I only have these 7 left from the sealed case that I offered up to the boards here. So I am holding those 7 boxes for you guys here. Otherwise, I dont have any left for sale!

    Thanks! Steve
  • I'd be willing to split or third a box since I'm not a big spender, if there's another small fish or 2 out there maybe we could hook up image

if a box is availble please let me know as i would take one ...who would be handling this break...also if we just buy packs i would be in for whatever everyone wants to do..

Id be interested in some packs and or possibly splitting a box.

I'd be in for some packs, but I can see why boxes would be popular. Only 7 boxes though would leave some people out based on previous responses. Could make a lot of people happy by going with packs!

I'm open to whatever. Would be in for one box if that's possible. I guess we'd send payment to BBCE and they'd ship directly.
  • How about we do the following...

Sell 5 complete boxes to the first 5 people that request them (only 1 person per box) have 2 boxes split up into 6 lots of 12.

would this be an ok for everyone??? If the lots do not sell out in 24 hours open up a full box to anyone that still wants a full box.

I cant wait to see who starts the official sign up thread and how they handle it. Do they satisfy the masses or the greedy? Stay tuned.

Packs, and limit them, at first ~IMO.

Group rips are for many people to enjoy.

If you want a box then contact Steve at BBCE and buy one on your own time without exploiting the board's discount.

In my recently completed 75 Topps Mini Wax Box break we only went through 2 boxes. I'm not sure if that
was because people had the standard 2+2+whatever limits or if it was because there just wasn't that much
    interest.

The idea of "reserving" the first 4 or 5 of the BBCE boxes for "box buyers" and leaving the rest for people to
do pack breaks on would probably work as long as you do regular limits on the number of packs. If people want
high numbers of packs, then you probably would not have enough boxes for the people that want packs.

I guess I'd be willing to put up another 2-3 boxes for either pack rips or as full boxes if that would alleviate any
    potential shortage.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT SUCH A THREAD NOT BE STARTED UNTIL A CONCENSUS IS REACHED BY THE MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM

Once such a concensus is reached, I'd be happy to volunteer to start the thread and organize it.
