I'm NOT Dreaming - 1971 Topps Unopened

This just came in and felt it was one that should be shared with the board. And yes, I've had it authenticated.

I have just spent the past hour writing by hand 250 times over and over,

I will not rip this pack.
I will not rip this pack.
I will not rip this pack.
...

McCovey is the Header Card

never seen one with a munson on top. That thing is SWEET!

Normally I love seeing these ripped, but this one really is too unique to disturb.

Always tempting, but in this case with Munson in the center cell I am NOT disturbing it.

Perhaps if it were centered L/R...... image

WOW! There is no way that you would rip that rack. If you did ... and there is an "unopened hell" in the afterlife, YOU, my friend, are going to be there FOREVER! Enjoy that rack ... has to be one of a kind!
    STAY HEALTHY!

Its an amazing rack but still doesnt put Munson in the Hall.

Even though it hurts the value, Ill still give you $40 for it.

There are two things one should not combine with alcohol: driving, and a 1971 unopened rack pack with Thurman Munson on the front and Willy McCovey on the front AND back.

You remember that and everything else will be cream cheese.

    Nice.
    Good for you.
  • It would have been nice to have a Dodger on the front instead of the McCovey.
Then you would have had all three teams from NY. The Mets, Yankees, and Dodgers.

    Still, nice rack. image

Actually, the Giants were originally from New York. The Mets came later.

    RIP it.

If PSA pre=-graded the Munson as a PSA 10, I'd consider ripping a rack like this...and even then, it would be a tough choice. Save the ripping for mid-70s racks...this one should be mounted and preserved to admire for years to come..

  • That's absolutely beautiful; thanks for showing it to us. I would rip it if it were mine, but that's only because I wouldn't have the willpower not to.

There's about a 99% chance it has much more value just the way it is.

So, what's the deal with Topps using a regular card as a header card?
  • kingbeeswaxkingbeeswax Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭
Never ever open it image It's beautiful!

Im the last person to give any opinion on 1970's unopened baseball because its a million miles away from anything Ive ever collected, however even a guy like myself can see the true beauty in something like that, an absolute gem and in my opinion it would be senseless to rip it open.

  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,750 ✭✭✭✭✭
If I'm agreeing with a Pats fan, you know keeping it sealed is the right choice!

WOW, that's a beauty of a rack, please keep it sealed!

Edit to ask: where did you find this rack?
  • StingrayStingray Posts: 8,843 ✭✭✭
McCovey has a hole through it??
  • 70ToppsFanatic70ToppsFanatic Posts: 2,106 ✭✭✭✭
In 1971 Topps used cards from the regular issue as the header cards in their rack packs.

As a result, you always find one card with a hole in it (since that's where it hung from the rack).

In this case, it was McCovey who ended up taking the "bullet" for the rest.
