I think I am gonna list some auctions for meteor / comet insurance that if you die you will get paid out $100 Million. Starting bids only $1. With tonights close call you know you need this insurance.
  • It's sad to watch the eBay I knew and loved become an over-priced mall. So much so that they are practically begging for auctions.

Late last night I threw up about 100 "filler" auctions. I will actually list some items and edit them sometime today and tomorrow.

I listed a few hundred auctions to list my 1971s. It takes so long to list them, I question if it's worth the effort. I still have a hundred or two filler auctions I need to update. With 10%-14% selling fees, it's becoming more economical to send cards to the auction houses.
  • Auction houses have 25-30% in fees (when you count buyer + seller commissions) unless you have big ticket items, so ebay by comparison is still pretty low at 11-14%. I don't mean to single them out, but I have a few consignments in the current Heritage Auction that are getting killed. If I knew it would be like this, I would've just sold the cards at ebay at my starting reserve, and would have done a lot better. (Still crossing my fingers however and hoping for an extended time miracle.)

True that the big auction houses still charge hefty premiums. However, smaller auctions are emerging like Greg Bussineau, Gemmint auctions, Sirius, etc. where you can get much lower or no seller's premiums. They're also tied into the registry so they can inform the set builders of their auction offerings. There's still a risk of not pulling in VCP for your auctions but you have the same risk of that on eBay as well. These auction houses also eliminate the need to spend hours scanning and listing the cards. At least one of the auction houses (Bussineau) even publishes a nice full color catalog.
