Would you cancel this bid?

I put up my 65 Koufax PSA 7 for sale using my new auction software (inkfrog) and it didn't set up my bidder requirements. Of course, the first bidder if a zero feedback guy who created his account yesterday. I've added him to my BBL, but should I cancel the bid?

So tell me, how many feedbacks did you have when you started on e-bay. Don't bother to answer, it's a simple rhetorical question.
  • I wouldnt sweat it. Im sure he will get outbid.

100% agree. It annoys the hell out of me when people do that.

My approach on low dollar cards, no big deal. High dollar cards I do have a bidding requierment that someone with less than 20 positives contact me first. Normally low feedback bidders do pay, but they can take forever. Not sure why, but many do. for some reason the low feedbak bidder is normally a poor communicator and thus the follow up emails on when is payment coming goes unanswered and my blood pressure rises. so I figure if a low feedback bidder emails me first, he knows how to communicate and he is free to bid away! if he bids and doesn't contact me first, he can't read, or doesn't want to read and more likely a poor comunicator so I would cancel his bid and block him.

Also, the early bidders are often low feedback bidders. They are the ones that don't set snipes and think they can win an auction with a low opening bid. I doubt he/she would win anyway. But personally, unless I have a good idea that a bidder is a deadbeat, I want MORE bidders, not less.

All valid arguments, but I asked because I've read MANY comments/threads here about how this sort of bidder smells like a shill to some bidders.

You can't block zero feedback bidders anyway. Why you would block a possible long term customer because they have zero feedback is beyond me??

It seems perfectly rational to block someone who wants your item from trying to buy it. Personally, I like to block all bidders who are named Todd, because history has shown me that they can't be trusted.

under new ebay rules , you can only block people with negative feedback I believe. I am not sure how they could get negative since sellers can't leave negatives so in essence you can't block anyone unless they are from another country(not sure on this either) or if you require a paypal account
  • I'd say no. I once had 0 feedback. I'm over 2000 now.

After sleeping on this one, I'm pretty well convinced that I overreacted. Sadly, I think too much time on here reading the Ebay threads has me more than a little gunshy about certain buyer characteristics, to the detriment of guys like this bidder.

  • I had a zero feedback buyer win 33 of my auctions worth over $600 recently, no payment, no contact. They don't all make it to 2000+ feedback
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

Sorry to hear that; hope he wasn't the guy that sniped me out of several of yours the other night.

Thanks, but to clarify just a bit - a zero feedback, brand-new account bidder was never the issue with me. A zero feedback, brand-new account bidder making his first auction a $90 card was. I probably had my feedback up to 100 before I ever dared to dabble in anything close to $100, and I guess I sort of expect most bidders would be that way.

I guess I don't understand this. With all due respect, a $90 card isn't that big a deal. It's not chump change or anything but it's also not an amount so large that it couldn't be an impulse buy for someone or whatever. So you added the guy to your BBL because he didn't meet your criteria for how he should build up his account? I just don't get it, I guess.

I already admitted the initial response was an overreaction. Too many seller horror stories here had my rabbit ears on overdrive for a scam.
