<< <i>He always amazed me how one man could have the city and state worshipping at his feet, then give it all up for greed. I mean how much $$$ is enough? How big does your McMansion have to be? How many Bentleys can you drive at one time? The counter to him is Tony Gwynn. He could have made bushels of dinero if he'd gone to a big bucks / big city team. As a result of staying, San Diego loves him now as much if not more than when he played. >>
Well said.
People who followed the Cavs, know that LBJ got away with anything and eveything. Honestly hes ALOT like Peyton Hillis, they both have "friends" and family in their heads telling them what they should do. Lebron could have been considered THE greatest of all time. Now, hes nothing but a sellout. I give it 2 more years and Miami will be ready to get rid of him.

All excellent points. Some people's ego and lust for money is insatiable. But I would have to take a good guess and believe that Lebron's agent, as well as his "posse" and all the other parasites who are attached to him, likely goaded and prodded him into making the decision for more money, so that they could perhaps get more money - it's a reason, but it's still not a valid excuse...the decision was all Lebron and he will have to live with it.
I think when his "book" comes out years from now after he is retired, he will admit it was a mistake...but for right now, I don't think he cares all that much about it, if at all.

i disagree, i think inside, he knows he made the wrong choice, but hes to much of a "man" to admit it.

Actually I think we agree on this, we just worded it differently.

I don't think him being considered the greatest of all time was even a remote possibility for him even if he had stayed in Cleveland.
<< <i>I could be wrong (and probably am) but didn't he take LESS money to go to Miami? I don't really care either way, just curious as to whether I misunderstood the free agent rules. My understanging was that a free agent's current team could offer the max money and all other teams had to offer less. But, again, I'm probably wrong. >>
Yes your right, the Cavs could of gave him 1 extra year on the deal.

You are correct. The Cavs could offer $30M more than any other team. Lebron and Wade both took $15M less to sign with the Heat.
Lebron wanted out of Cleveland for the bright lights of a bigger city. That is the problem with the NBA, none of the stars want to play in Utah, Detroit, Cleveland or Milwaukee. They all want to be in glamour towns.
You divorce your wife and marry a nice rich supermodel. You are still a jerk but now everybody knows it and talks about you.
Its sort of like that.

I realize many will disagree with me, and obviously I am not from Cleveland and can understand that fans there feel jilted when their star player doesn't re-sign.
I saw him signing with Miami as a calculated move to try to win a championship by playing alongside Bosh and Wade. Obviously it hasn't worked out so far, but it still may yet. I'm quite confident he will get a ring eventually somewhere. I don't view it as LBJ turning his back on the state of Ohio for the big city/bright lights. The guy wants to win a championship and he concluded that Miami would be the quickest way to do that. It was a self interested decision just like nearly every other NBA player makes. I don't think money factored into his decision much--if at all--for reasons already mentioned. Quite honestly, when you look at who was playing alongside him in Cleveland, I'm not sure it would have happened there.
I'll confess I really enjoy watching him play and consider him to be a great player--certainly one of the best in the NBA. People seem to either really like him or really hate him. Seems like the entire state of OH pretty much hates him now. And the haters REALLY hate him.

Plus Florida has a state income tax, or a larger one than Ohio (I forget which) and that cost Lebron more money.
Tabe
I am a Heat fan but really couldn't care less about all that other stuff surrounding him. LeBron took less money to come here to Miami, so how is that greed? He was a free agent, 'free' to go wherever he chooses, and he did. In this day and age, where everyone complains about the athletes going places just for the paycheck, I find it refreshing that he went somewhere to try to win, I would like to think that I would do the same.
As far as Cleveland goes, one player leaves and you are irrelevant? Is that LeBron's fault or Cleveland's? Same goes for the Colts.

No LBJ didnt take less money. If you recall, it was a sign and trade or somethinbg like that. Lebron got the Max deal, and the Cavs got a draft pick or two.

Look on the bright side...at least you still have an NBA team <sigh>.
And, no, I'm not bitter about OKC kicking a$$ once they moved out of Seattle.
