i can sort of see it when it comes to the .5 (not talking about this card, just in general)

take an old PSA Slab before they offered the half grade scale.

you had a card that was not good enough to be a 9, but too good for a 7 slab, so an 8 is where it went.

now there are more options with the half point grade
