Larger, old world gold?

At some point in the near future I want to buy a new piece of gold. I have a st gaudens and a liberty $20...I'd like to get a piece of foreign gold. Preferably something larger (I see a a lot of .2 ounce size) and the older the better. Any recommendations? Also something that is readily available graded by pcgs or ncg. Thanks!
(I really like the sovereigns, but they are pretty tiny).

Little off topic, what, technically is a "gold doubloon"? I would love to get one of those image

A few big ones that come to mind are the British 5 sovereign piece, the Italian 80 lire, France 100 Franc and Mexican 50 Peso. I think the premium to BV is relatively modest on these.

The "doubloon" term is most commonly applied to the Spanish colonial 8-escudos gold pieces, but is also sometimes used for the smaller denominations of 1/2, 1, 2, and 4 escudos as well. They're so called because each denomination is double the denomination below it.

Be prepared to lay out some big dough for an 8-escudo piece. The smaller Spanish colonial gold pieces are affordable, however, even by mortal humans.

A British 2 pounds (22 karat, 0.47oz agw) or 5 pounds (1.17oz agw ) would be a good choice IMO. I recently picked up an Isle of Man 2 pounds gold which I really like. It can be seen a few pages down in this thread: TGIF metal porn
