Need help identifying this 1861 English Penny

Hello

Would you say "L C WYON" is on or below the truncation?

What garde would you give this coin?

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

Sounds to me like you've already nailed it.

Yep, you've got an 1861 British penny there. image

Oh. You wanted to know what variety. Ah, well I'm not the guy for that. No worries, though. You'll get your answer soon enough.

Nice lookin' piece. I'd estimate gVF by Brit standards, and possibly EF40 by American standards.

I could be wrong, but I think that's below the truncation. If it were on the truncation, I think the lettering would be incuse, as it is on the reverse initials?

C'mon, Brit specialists. Give the fella his answer. I'm fumblin', here. I've only had a few of these obverse/reverse varieties, and usually not in this high a grade.

Thanks Lordmarcorvan I appreciate your input. I am a novice when it comes to Non U.S. coins as far as tight specific grading. I look at this coin and if I was grading it per American standards I would say XF+. However on the reverse there is a distracing mark right over the face. It might not show up on the picture but it is there. However this coin is also a DDO and has some real neat doubling. Given all the good bad and ugly I woould say this is not an XF+ but more like a VF to VF + in American Standards.

I would appreciate anyone else's opion.

    Thanks

    Hi,

It looks like a Freeman 22 to me. Sig below Truncation and initials below the shield.
One of the more common varieties....
