What is the premium for toners with great eye appeal?
Current grade: $650... plus: $725... next grade up: $1200... asking price: $1295

I've looked at this coin for months... and I LOVE IT! But, I don't want to get buried in this coin in the current toner craze.

maybe i don't understand the question...but anyway...
the coin's intrinsic value is basically a couple pennies...so anything more than that you're paying because you like it and want to collect it. so, does it make a difference? ask yourself if you like it enough to pay that much money. you're taking a risk regardless, the way i see it atleast, that the coin will retain or increase in value.
<< <i>wow, i don't know. you'd be paying more for the toning than the coin is worth? or is it priced such that the seller thinks its actually a grade better? perhaps its the latter. >>
PCGS MS64RB CAC (green)
I paid $550
I sold for $1550
Translation: Very large if the coin is pretty enough!!

Not all 64's are equal and that appears to be a nice one... toning or not.
btw, very, very sweet coin!
Some tough issues to locate with color sold for astronomical figures...
Way beyond the moon far closer to uranus money!
i beleive that dealer has a "make offer" button... i know it's been sitting for awhile b/c i've kept my eyes on it too... def. worth a premium but 100%'s way over my comfort level as well...
OGH adds a bit, CAC adds a bit, def. looks PQ which adds a bit, and nice toning can add alot... don't know if i'd buy it, but i'd consider it more in the $900-1000 range....
it's a bear trying to grade MS coins via photo... to me it looks mark free and maybe alittle lightly struck around 11 and 2... but in hand there could be something obvious keeping it from a 65.
Personally, I would pass, but you're not buying the coin for me....so if you have the money and really LOVE the coin (in-hand), I see no issue.

Some one really thougth the 2nd coin was so much nicer they paid $33,000 more for it. Now part of that is also grade related, but $33k that is a big premium and some one paid it.
<< <i>but I can assure you $960 won't buy this coin! >>
at least you know where you stand and you gave it a shot. Makes moving on easier...
Lots of nice, high grade 1850s Large Cents out there... i think i came to a realization that although I do like toning on silver, i prefer copper to look like copper...
<< <i>It is a wide range, and the spread is whatever the seller wants, and a buyer will pay. See the two links below. Notice the price disparity. Was it for eye appeal, both makes claims for the finest known as they are tied in numerical grade. But why did one sell for so much more?

There is NO comparison that works for a coin that deserves to be in a 66 holder vs one that the market says doesn't really even deserve to be in the 65 holder it's in.

Experts here have coalesced around $1K.
You really "LOVE IT!"
Has the green tag holder, so hasn't been messed with and toning is probably stable.
CAC to boot.
Is your love of the coin worth stretching three hundred bucks? Or offering $1150, and stretching a hundred and half bucks?
Definitely a pretty coin.....and will be one when you decide to sell.
coinkid, sweet Morgan and nice flip!
<< <i>I agree with the $900-1000 crowd... but I can assure you $960 won't buy this coin!
OREALLY? Never hurts to ask.
