    Don's Village Coins

Ocean Avenue, just west of Junipero Serra (aka highway 1 in SF).

On Market st. in downtown there is a great store.
    It's in the Hobart Building.

I believe it's called Witter Coins.

You won't regret spending some time and money there.

If you feel like taking a short drive to Palo Alto, about 30 minutes south, There is a coin shop at the "Town & Country shopping village". I used to ride my bike down there when I was a snot nosed kid to buy coins. I'm sixty now and the same guy is STILL there, amazing. You'll find this guy is very nice and most importantly, "old school" and will deal with you. Good luck and SF is very nice this time of year....Joe

There are only a handful shops in the city proper. Their addresses and other info can be found in the local yellow pages.

I'm just amused at how when the OP asked about shops in San Francisco some of the answers get more complicated than they should be as places in Palo Alto, Tiburon, etc., places not in San Francisco, get named. The OP asked for coin shops in San Francisco, not coin shops within a 90 mile radius of San Francisco.

Kagin's is not open to the public although if they were the trip to get there would include one exhilarating round trip ferry ride.

Witter and Trader Sam's (on Valencia St. in the Mission District) are the most convenient and most worth visiting. Both are easily accessible by public transit (although virtually everywhere in San Francisco is easily reachable by public transit).

I will go to witter coins this week, maybe today in fact.

True, I didn't want to rent a car, only really want SF. Not too many listings in the yellow pages or yelp actually

I would recommend both Don's and Witter. Call first as they often keep irregular hours.

Witter has more inventory but Don's often has the occasional surprising find.

The joy of visiting San Francisco is you don't need a car to get around. You would need to rent a car only if you plan on visiting the wine country of Napa and Sonoma or if you want to do a day trip to Monterey, Carmel, Santa Cruz or Yosemite. Actually public transit can get you to Napa and even Yosemite but driving is easier.

If I recall Witter *could* be on vacation and closed this week so please call him at (415)781-5690 in advance to make sure he isn't on vacation this week.

Just spent 3 hours at witter coins.

I looked at a ton of stuff. His prices are firm on everything, not flexible for a dime. However I bought 2 coins which I really liked, a 1928 peace dollar in an old green holder in 63 and a raw 11-s lincoln in brown, shot at 64.

I really had fun, on to Don's village coin shop later in the week!
