Once there is a general consensus for the grade I'd love opinions on whether to send it to PCGS or not.

I think it looks 64-65, so considering Hallmark's rep for having been rather conservative, I'll guess they said 63.

The coin looks very clean and is well struck. The only question I have re the image is its toning. I can't tell from the image whether the coin has been artificially toned.

Ie., there is residue of some sort on the viewer's right in the obverse field. A good dip job would not leave as much as this on the surface of the coin. I would guess that the chemicals involved in the dip (and the coin has clearly been dipped) reacted with something already on the coin, though part of the image is so dark, I can't tell what was on the coin before the dip.

In terms of preservation, eye appeal, etc., I could see MS 66, but based on the preceding paragraph, I honestly don't know whether the coin would grade. Ten years ago, if there was a doubt re a coin's toning, based on what I saw, more often than not, it would be slabbed. That's not the case now.

I have one of these in a PC 6 holder. Hard to tell from your photos, but what is going on with the obv in the field above the motto? from the photo (and looking at mine for comparison) I don't think 66 - maybe 65 based primarily on the field, which could be something amplified by the photo conditions). But yours looks like it has a stronger strike on the obv than mine - especially in the center of the coin. I don't know how much strike matters.

Edit - I posted this before reading Elcontador's response. I think we are seeing the same thing on the obv.

Thanks for ALL of the replies. I really thought this coin stood a strong chance of going into PCGS and coming back in a 66 holder. The question now is whether it's worth more in a PCGS slab or the old Hallmark?

I have a bunch of 1930's & 40's ms65 - ms66 Lincolns in Hallmark holders - is there a premium for the holders? Hallmark Co. graded coins ultra-conservatively. They were the first grading company to offer the "PQ" designation - but very few coins got the PQ from Hallmark. There was a time in the early 1990's when you could consign raw coins to TT and get them HLMK graded and I did so. The ones I have today are TT raw submissions returned to me as unsold.

I know nothing about Hallmark slabs, but I would guess that this particular coin would fetch more money in a PCGS rather than any other holder. I'd have someone look at the coin first re the issues I raised before sending it in, though. This is tough stuff, and even some people who grade well can miss it.

I assume the purplish hue on the image only reflects the holder, and is not on the coin itself. I mention this because a light purple hue on an Unc. silver coin is NOT a good thing.

Nice coin- I think I would leave it- How many Walkers in 65 still exist in this holder? I suspect not too many

I say it might cross to PCGS as a 65.

Nice skin on your walker Banemorth. So many have been dipped. Looks like it will MS65 at PCGS.

This date can be found with a very strong strike so the differentiating factors are generally going to be marks and eye appeal for this particular issue. I'm concerned about the overall eye appeal just from 'hard to tell' photos. This is my 66; the thumb is not only fully split, it is fully rounded. I'd like the head to be a little stronger to match the hand...but...beggars can't be chosers. From what I can tell from the pictures posted, I like your coin as a 65 and if it were mine, I'd leave it in its current slab. Sorry for the monster image...didn't mean to make it that large.

I was very pleased to buy 3 MS64 Frankies in Hallmark slabs for $15/ea at the ANA show Tuesday.

The grade looks about right for all 3.
