Error "Mated Pair" - Will PCGS grade these as such?

I'm looking to add a few different errors to my overall collection so I was just browsing to see what's out there to sort of get my "want list" together.

I was very intrigued by this auction primarily because it reminded me of the "split Morgan" that one company got a million miles of publicity out of


My question is: Would PCGS list these as "mated pairs" also or is this only an NGC thing?


Second question: Is this common (error wise)? I have very little "error coin" knowledge.

PCGS mated pairs. And apparently with 2 on ebay at a time they aren't super uncommon

The are scarcer than the single coin. A mated pair has to be found together and that is rare. There are thousands of brockage coins out there. There "other" half is out there, too. But, to find them individually is one thing and are worth far less than finding the two coins together. So, for the mated pair you are looking at (the cents), you are looking at about $30 to $50 if found separately. Being together, they fetch a couple of hundred more. Here are my two mated pair:

I had a third and fourth pair, but sold both a number of years ago for some dumb reason. I really enjoyed them. One was a damaged 2001D set and the other was a third 2000P set. I sold the 2000P set to Pete Bishall, who has since passed away. Many error enthusists will know who he was.

It seems I recall seeing a Franklin and Lincoln cent mated pair in PCGS holders. Does anyone else remember this?

Mated pairs are very cool and rare errors and are highly sought after by error collectors.

I have a few set sets of cents and on set of 1964 Jeffersons that I got from Fred.
