I would like some opinions on this coin. It looks real nice to me but something just looks funny about. I don't know if it is just the color or the angle of the picture or what. What do you guys think?
So, I am in the market for one of these things. Would this be a good one to bid on? I think it looks good, might have a little dip in its past but other than that it looks good to me.
It very well could have been dipped at some point. That's certainly a lot of years to have been hanging around and ending up looking like that without a little help at some point along the beaten path. All I can say is, those dies are deteriorated, some, resulting in that look you were questioning. And, the coin looks good to me. Not trying to cop out, I hope you understand. Just giving you the best I think I can do.
EDIT: BTW, those areas of wear on the face, neck and bust are also where the luster has been grazed, back in this gal's youth. It's generally a good sign to see that, as it means the coin hasn't been plated.

Looks to me like it had a lot of dip in its very recent past. That said, condition-wise, this coin seems to embody the reason AU58 is such an awesome grade... it looks AU65 to me. Personally I like my 178 year old coins to show more crust, but then I don't collect this series, so what do I know? If you like the look, go for it!
From the differences (lighting, etc.) between the slab pictures and the closeups, it's plain to see that the seller is no master photographer, that's all. (Neither am I, for sure!)
I think this is a good seller, I have not done business with this seller but everything listed "I've looked at" seems to be in order. But with that being said, this coin was probably dipped at one point for it to be soooo white! Just my opinion of course....
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Is that what causes that pitting look on the reverse?
EDIT: Make that the eagle's right wing. Can I help it it's on the left side from my vantage point?
