Thoughts on this 1832 Bust half. Will she cross?

AnkurJAnkurJ Posts: 11,366 ✭✭✭✭
A heritage newp, and a nicer looking example than my current 1832.
Will she cross without any issues?
Thoughts on the overall look?

Thanks!

Not a grading expert like some here, but I can't see why it wouldn't.

Easily will cross, but you will lose the overton designation on the label. Unless you pay the extra $$$.
    Good luck...

Thoughts on the overall look? Gorgeous coin!
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.

One never knows what PCGS will do on a crossover, however, I don't see anything that would cause this one to bag. Such ANACS crosses at grade might be about one in three or four successes.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

    Dipped and retoned. "Genuine"

I agree that it looks dipped, retoned and genuine. But based on the images, I don't see why it shouldn't still cross into an AU 50 holder. Surely you don't think that PCGS wont grade dipped coins which have retoned?

These are heritage images. There are tons of dipped coins in holders. They seem to be market acceptable even when totally washed out.

Not sure about the odd circle shaped area of "no toning" on the obverse...

Obv looks a bit off to me - I would guess that it would not cross.

It looked like album toning after a dip to me, thus the ring. Will take detailed pics when I get it in.

I would have said yes going by the smaller images, I but I think that scratch will cause it to Genuine.

The scratch seals its fate. They may tolerate dipping but not scratches. "Genuine"

I have seen much worse in PCGS plastic. I think they are a bit lenient with bust halves. Even if they downgrade her to XF45, I would be happy.

Was the purpose of this thread for you to receive (or for you to give) thoughts/opinions on the coin and whether it would cross?

Yes it was. Am I not allowed to reply to what others are saying?

I would not try to cross her. crack and submit. The scratch should not warrant a gennie as it's probably old and not too obvious.

Seems like she may still have an abundance of luster for a 50. The old dip puts her in very good company.

I see its chances of grading at PCGS as nil and none.

Boy, this crowd is rough. This coin has 55 detail and has good eye appeal and the scratch is minimal and anacs circs cross very good for me. I actually get upgrades sometimes. Uncs not so good.

I think it will cross and maybe upgrade.

I'm wondering if youd be better off leaving it alone for now

I suspect it will cross. The current ANACS is fairly strict with the Capped Bust series. This coin has been lightly cleaned and retoned and has already been "downgraded" by ANACS from say 55 to 50 for those defects. If the cleaning was really harsh, I suspect it would be in a details holder already.

I would say yes. I have owned half dollars that have looked just like it in PCGS holders. Infact my 32 looked very similar.
