Talked to a comic book collector yesterday. He told me the biggest issues he had was the inconsistent grading and people messing with the comics to make them look nicer than they were. A brother in arms.

Yup. They remove the cancellation and regum the back of the stamp. Paper money is also heavily doctored---washing, bleaching, trimming ragged edges, starching to make the paper crisp, ironing to remove creases/folds, re-inking faded signatures, repairing holes and tears, etc.

Slabbing comics to me has always seemed silly as the joy of collecting them was reading.
