Was just browsing some auction archives. Was the Eliasberg 1889-cc Morgan a huge bargain in Jan 09?

That seems surprisingly low, especially with all the talk of high prices today. Or is/was that the proper market? Didn't the Vermuele 1893-s sell for over a million around the same time?

    It seemed cheap at the time, and even cheaper in retrospect. But don't forget, the world was coming to an end back then.

    That 1889-CC might be a great coin, but that picture of it sure doesn't float my boat. My understanding about the Gem Mint State 1889-CC dollars is that most of them are very sharply struck P-L coins. That one has a bit too much tarnish for my taste, but then again I'll probably never put half a million bucks into one coin so my opinion does not really count.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
