It's part of the master die, not a galvano. For modern commemoratives, it's usually part of the final design model - no galvano is made.

What's the latest technology - do they cut master dies with lasers drvien by a 3-D computer rendering of the artist's model?

From there, are the working hubs/working dies still produced using electolysis to transfer the image?

Transitioning to machine or laser cut master die.

The model is scanned and digitally reduced. Cutting instructions go to a cutting tool which makes the master die. Master hubs are made on an hydraulic press and working dies then made from the master.

Eventually, a CO2 laser will cut the master die, but that’s still being tested.

BTW – the mint folks recognize laser “frosting” looks like snakeskin and are working on improvements.
