didnt some 'regular' Sacs get packaged this way? $15k (opening bid) is an expensive gamble

His opening price is overly ambitious.

They sure did. You need to see the reverse for the tail or it's only worth $1 or 2.

most likely a regular sac. But there are some diagnostics on the obverse to tell it's a real Cheerios, right?

there is a die marker on the obverse, too.

and even the price guide lists a MS68 as $15k, so there is another gamble. very agressive opening bid.

    Really? Where?
  • This thread has the diagnostics to tell if it is a pattern from the obverse alone.image

No gamble, just a loss. I used to do the Sacs and I have gone through many, many thousands and the chance that Sac is a 68 is worst than odds on the lotto.

One pic does is not a diagnostic. Especially when the poster is not 100% sure their self.

The seller knows that it may be worth alot.
However, he/she wont take the time to learn enough about it to have it graded.
Either the seller knows it's not the real deal or they are just hoping to make a big score.
    My opinion.

  • I wonder......

Think it could be the one that sold last year for $5,700? Any body ever hear who won that one, or what happened to it?image

Cheeriors Sacs in 68 have been going for half that in Heritage auctions.

That guy really needs to get it graded.

I doubt anyone will bid on it. Opening bid is just out of whack, even if it is the real deal.

The obverse die marker doesn't show up that great in the auction, but I think it was enough to convince the winning bidder of a legitimate piece without seeing the reverse. I hope they show it off here. image

Lustig predicted some time ago that coins in the original packaging will become more valuable than certified coins.

But I never expected this - could e***e be Eagle Eye?? image

It may be, but there are still less than 100 known. I think new cars are overpriced and have never purchased one to date.

I'm with Nic - PM me if you want mine at that price - I'll undercut him by $100. image

I agree as well. Whomever bought it, unless he/she has money to burn, will never recover that cost.

Maybe they are a true collector and aren't looking to recover the cost. Others who are the investor types only see coins as a commodity. That is simple enough to read throughout the ages, and pages here.
