Think this 1840 seated dollar can grade?

So-so photo, likely dipped once upon a time, bought it raw over a decade ago. It's in one of those Coin World holders now.

    I think it'll grade,

yes, there's very light hairlines, but I've seen these in holders before.

I bet the coin looks less 'hairlined' in hand, than in the pic.

    Genuine, cleaned.

I think there is a chance it will grade. Not sure what percentage chance, though. Some slack is given in terms of the key date coins in this series, IMO.

It is less bright than it appears, was taken back in the day when I had the camera and lights really close to the coin. I've seen many a seated dollar like this in a holder, so tough to find these coins nice and original.

We have all seen worse in Tpg holders for sure. There is a chance that it will grade. No one can say for sure, but looks worth the cost of sending it in.Good luck if you do.

    edit for spelling.

I think it will grade - as TennesseeDave said, we've all seen worse in TPG holders.
This is a good date - took me a long time to find a decent one at a reasonable price. I don't know if mine will slab either, but it will be in my 7070 album forever, so I don't care.

Here is mine, PCGS xf40-- It's a bit bright, hard to argue that it didn't have a "light cleaning" at some point-- posting this for comparison purposes, not trying to hijack the thread--

The OP's coin looks more cleaned than yours. It has a chance of grading, but will most likely not. Still a nice coin though.

Possibly as well as some of the graders image
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

    It should not grade.

Cleaned, but the services are lenient on cleaned pieces in this series. Send it to NGC. They'll grade anythingimageimage

In time it will grade. You gave it ten years, but I'm not sure if that's long enough in plastic. Try ten years in a Dansco 7070.

Oh, and yes... I like the coin. It's better than an empty slot in the Dansco.
