POST a BOONE Commerative in Memory of Fess Parker

No doubt I am not alone in mourning the loss of one of our childhood heroes, actor Fess Parker who entered into the great beyond yesterday. Growing up in the sixties...."Daniel Boone" was a favorite TV show, and Fess portrayed the great man with a tender yet strong impression that no doubt will be with many of us forever.

Daniel Boone was a Man, just a Big Man. and indeed, Fess stood a towering Six foot Six, in fact too tall to be a pilot in WW2!. From a varied acting career begun in the 1950's he went on to become a successful businessman and Vintner. Those of us impressionable young fellows who followed the TV show will always remember him.

God Rest Your Soul, Fess Parker

When I was living in Santa Barbara every now and then I'd go wine tasting at his vineyard. You would have to buy a wine glass there to go tasting (a semi-common practice at vineyards). Many other vineyards that did that would have the name of their label on the glass. At FP's place there was just a small picture of a coonskin cap. Rather cute IMO.

So you could post a Texas, too. And looking at imdb.com, he also played in a 1956 movie called "Westward Ho the Wagons!", so add an Oregon while you're at it.

No Boones here, but I do have a Texas.

No, not Daniel Boone, but same coonskin cap in his memory... I think Fess Parker played Davey Crockett too and I remember that song from my childhood, "Davey, Davey Crockett, king of wild frontier..." image

I remember the show more vividly than what happened yesterday..

    The song started with...

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee
Greenest state in the Land of the Free
Raised in the woods so's he knew every tree
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three.
Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier!

    OK eveyone sing along now..

Sad indeed. We're all getting closer to leaving this earth.

It was a great TV show for the 60's.

Does anyone remember his role in a Classic Movie .... OLD YELLER. He portrayed the Father.

If memory serves me, I think Buddy Ebsen (of Jeb Clampett fame)
played his sidekick in Davy Crockett.

I think it was 1954 when that premiered on TV and I soon had a coonskin hat, as did most of the kids in the neighborhood. I have a picture on my desk right now of my brother and I from that era, I am wearing a Davey Crockett shirt, He was one of my first hero's and Fess parker was Davey to me, RIP Fess>
