Picked up a new coin at a B&M today. Would you crack it out?

I paid a shopping $15.00 for the coin. it is a 1957 NGC PF69 Roosevelt Dime. The obverse is a killer DCAM and the reverse has moderate frost with great mirrored fields. If the reverse frost were a little heavier it would have warranted a CAM designation on the holder. With the killer DCAM obverse it should have received a * Star, however maybe it was given a 69 grade instead of a * Star.

On the obverse fields above FDR's head and to the left of his face some light, milky, haze has developed on the coin. The haze is a distraction. The haze is the type which would easily come off with a quick bath.

I like the coin very much, but do not like the haze. If I cracked it I would lose the 69 grade and would have, after a bath, a raw coin that would probably upgrade the 1957 Proof Roosie in my 1950-70 Proof Cameo Set [though maybe not if the reverse frost on the current coin occupying the slot is better than the reverse on today's coin].

If you subscribe to buy the coin, not the holder, then cracking this coin is not crazy. If the most important thing is the number on the slab insert, then cracking this coin out would be crazy.

Your thoughts on this most important question, please.

I think you already answered your question. It's your coin, do what you think is right.

Dip it - you don't like the haze and it will continue to bother you until you fix it. It is not a high dollar coin and you have a $14 dollar downside on it. Just make sure you neutralize it well before you put it in a flip or your capital holder. Or, if you want to spend some $$, try NCS.

Keep in mind there was a period when NGC slabbed many 69's that were undeserving. Possibly your coin is in that category.

Someday, single sided cameos will be appreciated for what they are. Until then, they are available very inexpensively.
