Would this 1839 seated half grade AU?

DoubleEagle59DoubleEagle59 Posts: 8,402 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm having difficulty grading this coin mainly because of the wear (or strike weakness) on the eagle's left leg area. All other parts of the coin look AU to me (detail in stars and leaves).
Any comments would be appreciated.

    I don't know how it will grade because I can't tell surfaces weel from your picture, but that IS strike weakness (NOT wear)
    that you are seeing on the reverse, and is common for more than a few dates of Seated Quaters and Halfs.

    edit;

    on second look, I think I can make out enough luster ... yes, I think it would AU+ if the surfaces don't have other issues

    I'm guessing that the color in the images is off? Either way, I don't see any obvious wear, so, while an AU55-58 is certainly possible, I think it could be unc.

    In terms of wear it appears to be AU or better.
