PVC on these half cents?

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,625 ✭✭✭✭✭
I put these under the dinolite when I was looking at things on the silver roosie tonight.
Is this dirt or PVC?
(being partially colorblind, I can't tell "green" for PVC most of the time)

Just a little verdigris. Nothing to worry about.

    Thanks.
There are PCGS AUs, so I was a tad worried....

Verdigris, but would be best removed before it damages the surface... Acetone will take it off. Cheers, RickO

Not PVC. I have several high graded coins that look a little nasty under high magnification. Size your photo to be more like 2x life size instead of 10x and you'll enjoy them more. --Jerry

Make them really small and you'll forget entirely.

It's verdigris but it doesn't look very active. When it's bright green and whitish at the edge it is eating away at the coin.

I'm not sure I would use acetone on copper. It can be just fine but sometimes it turns the color. A few times I've had PCGS deal with the verdigris on pricey copper and have always been very satisfied.
    Lance.

I actually noticed something there with my eyes first, then used the dinolite to get a better look.
As long as it doesn't do anything, that's fine.

I'd expect you could see that with the naked eye but it wouldn't be so noticable. Perhaps you should team up with RYK to come up with an extremently derogatory sounding and thus complimentary term for dirty copper including words like "putrid" and "disgusting". image
