Sometimes, much ballyhooed coin collections (edited) ARE all they are hyped up to be...

Recently, there has been much talk and publicity surrounding a collection of toned Morgan Dollars which was acquired by a well known dealer from an allegedly (edited:
)
extremely discerning collector. The coins were supposedly gorgeous, beautifully toned, yada, yada, yada. Well, I finally saw about 20 of them at Baltimore, and frankly, they looked fairly ordinary to me. (Edited:
)
Below, are images of two of them which I had for sale, but which are no longer available.

Is it just me, or are they more or less, run of the mill toners, the likes of which you see all over the place and in large quantities?

personally i was not impressed with the coins.
(thankfully I noticed the winky near the bottom of his post and remembered that coinguy1 wouldn't have had the coins for sale in the first place if they weren't very to extremely nice or otherwise I might have made a fool of myself by attempting humor
Now the Jack Lee Walker set - those coins spoke volumes for themselves.

Glad you moved the coins so quickly Mark.
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
Realone - thanks for the laugh.
I had thought that posting the images (of what I think are sensational looking coins) and winkie would make it obvious that the thread, including the following comment/question was in jest:
<<Is it just me, or are they more or less, run of the mill toners, the likes of which you see all over the place and in large quantities?>>
To be serious and clear, however, each and every coin that I saw from the collection - and I understand that I didn't even see the best ones- was breathtaking in its color and eye-appeal. It is simply an amazing and unforgettable group of coins.
OK - you're back in contention for future consignments.
<< <i>My apologies (and embarrassment) for my apparent failed attempt at humor and the resulting confusion.

I was impressed by them as well. And supposedly many of the nice ones sold long before Baltimore...
I bought one - can't wait til Tuesday when it finally arrives!

After some gumbo I think it was actually bought by the gasguy
<< <i>lovely Morgans! got any more pics?
I don't - sorry.
<< <i>Interesting slabs >>
Not slabs. Holders.
Nice coins. Saw the email when it came out and they were waaaayyyyyy out of my league
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

<< <i>I dont understand your post. and then the smiley face? >>
Now, Hyperion, pay attention. This is your average, run-of-the-mill, Collector's Universe smiley face:
This, OTOH, is a Collector's Universe winky face:
<< <i>Another dealer, who is known to post here, bought 7 or 8 of the toned dollars from Legend. No offense CoinGuy1, but they killed the ones you shared in this post. (although they are certainly very nice). I didn't even bother to ask about price because I know they are waaaaay out of my league. And, FYI, some credit should be given to Andy Kimmel of Paragon, who sold a number of the toned dollars to GSAguy years ago. >>
No offense taken. And if it is the group I'm thinking of, they are amazing.
So Bryan...did you save any scraps for those of us who don't have the budget to spend a couple of grand for a coin

I am assuming you were joking along the same lines that Mark was initially or no?
<< <i>I wanted at least one example for my collection and contacted Legend only to be told they didn't have any coins from his collection for sale at the $1000 or less price point I was looking for

God made outrageous toners that were less than a grand per coin? Who knew?

<< <i>Where did the 78-cc's end up?

Don't know for sure but it sounded like they might not see the light of day for some time. Beautiful 78-CC's. Never saw anything like them before, or since.

One man's outrageous toner is another man's coppertone tan.
