Speetys Official Baltimore Show Report - Seated $ set 100% complete! - New pics in OP
We drove in Friday night and spent the night an hour out of Baltimore, woke up the next morning to the wonderful continental breakfast consisting of three choices, glazed donuts, sugar-cinnamon twist donuts, or those plain donuts. And to drink, watered down apple juice or water. Fine choice of a hotel!
An hour later we pull into our parking spot right as the doors open, quickly make our way through the nametag place and are at Dick Osburns table within 15 minutes of the doors opening, a good start! Didn’t really see anything that interested us, and slid down to see the LSCC display.
These guys are awesome. Bill Bugert and Len (Coinosaurus) we at the table with some stuff to display as well as an amazing set of seated half dollars that were unreal. I quickly introduced myself and my dad to Len and chatted for a while with him. When Bill was done talking with another person we slid down there and introduced ourselves to him as well. To which Bill turned to my dad and said how it’s been nice to talk to him online, before quickly figuring out that I was indeed Speety, not my father lol We talked about displaying with them our near-complete (missing the 1856) set of seated dollars the next time they are going to set up.
The next hour or so I spent walking the bourse. I made sure to hit Legends table to see Bryan’s toned morgans, they were not disappointing in the least! After that I just sort of wandered around until noon.
At HIGH noon, well more like 11:45 I found tootawl at the PCGS booth, as his name suggested it wasn’t too difficult. We had met a couple years ago at Baltimore so it was good to chat with him for a while. Around noon Ms.Morrisine and his son came up and chatted with us and not long after RYK stopped by. We stayed until around 12:45 at which time RYK looked rather concerned that SeaEagleCoins had not yet stopped by – perhaps RYK has moved on from Longacre already? I was a little disappointed not to meet Stinkinlincoln or SeaEagleCoins, but it was great to meet the guys who actually stopped by, not just said they did.
I stopped by to say hi to Charmy and Todd, to which I surprised Charmy by not being an old man (lol) and even got Todd to quit snapping photos for a while to come over and say hi. Charmy was as nice as advertised and Todds photo setup was pretty nifty. A little later I saw the liberty nickel sign being projected onto the ceiling, and I wandered over slowly to meet my dad at a dealers table to look at a coin. He had found the coin that we didn’t think existed, a fully struck 1883 No Cents nickel. It's in a PCGS66 holder and has some of the light rust-colored toning, a perfect match to our 1912-D. A couple minutes later, the coin was ours and we once again split up to look around some more.
An hour or so later, the seated dollar sign was projected. Now a liberty nickel sign means come over when you get a chance. The seated dollar sign means I’m running over, pushing people out of the way, jumping some tables if it would cut time, etc… And the signal led me straight to a familiar table, Duncan Lee and a guy who was sharing a table with him. In the case, an 1856 MS-62. After about 20 minutes scrutinizing the coin and all the past sales we had seen and the prices they had brought we bought the coin.
Afterward we stopped by Legends table and talked to George and it was a pleasure. I had never really talked to George much, but he was really friendly and apparently listens while I blabber on to him/Laura as he was familiar with our collection. I checked out the toned morgan dollars again, looked at the MS-66 1886 nickel and the two MS-65 seated dollars they had, and we hit the road shortly after.
So a summary:
6+ hours in the car each way.
5 new forum members that I met.
4 hours at the show.
3 types of food (donuts) available for breakfast, usually I can at least get a bagel…
2 new purchases.
1 successful show.
Hot: No clue
Cold: No clue
At least I’m honest….
I'm not too happy with the pictures but here are what I was able to quickly snap this weekend. I'm looking forward to spring break, I'm gonna have a whole week to take pics of the dollar set and nickels!
The nickel has a pretty rough slab so the left corn doesn't look too full in the pics and any scratches you see are on the holder. One day I'll learn how to image the nickels correctly. The toning is much more attractive (and lighter) in hand.

<< <i>Mark, congrats on finishing your Seated Dollar Set and snagging a sweet Lib Nickel
Thanks Stone, we have all the dates, but there are still a few that need to be upgraded
In my post I made when we got the 1870-s, Tradedollarnut commented that the only complete business strike sets ever completed are as follows:
Legend Collection
Share Collection
Quellar Collection
Richmond Collection
[MnS Collection]
I find it semi-amusing that we have one coin from each of the above sets (the ex-Legend coin was a duplicate of his, but it's still labeled Legend on the holder!
past the donuts. Mmmmmmmmmm........donuts!!!!!!!!!!

Great report, Speety.

Now I need to pull out my collection because I don't recall ever seeing corn on the no cents nickel. I got one from Larry @ Sea Eagle in October.
Did you ever run into...
It sounds like the drive was well worth it! Thanks for writing up your report and sharing it with us. Look forward to more pics!
<< <i>Did you ever run into...
No, but I gave him a hard time about it!
A couple years ago I bought a dollar from him that I was supposed to pick up from a dealer friend of his at Baltimore and could never find the guy... I think I just give up with anything that has to do with him and Baltimore... lol
<< <i>Congrats, Mark!

Someday when we have the coins out of the SDB I'll have to meet you somewhere and have a show and tell with some of them
Thanks for all the kind words guys, it's been a fun set to put together and we'll still add upgrades as they come along. I'll do a post when I get all the pictures done showing them all, it probably won't be until spring break though (March 20th or so).
Looking forward to seeing your newps, especially the 1883 NC Lib nickel. If she's anything like your 1912-D MS66, then you certainly found a "unicorn"

<< <i>Super job Mark, it's been a real pleasure talking Seated dollars with you over the last couple of years. What's next?
upgrading! We have a couple coins that will eventually be upgraded (1850o, 1855, 1859o, 1859s, etc.).
After that probably a little break to think about what to go after next and to resupply the coin-money reserves lol
Nice newps, especially the V nickel! I really want to assemble another set. I hope you plan on going to the Fort Worth ANA show. I will be there at Glenn Holsonbakes table helping him out. Anyway, that V nickel looks like a very nice piece. Do you plan on getting it reholdered?

I don't plan on getting the liberty nickel reholdered, I have a bottle of PlastX that I'll give a try when I get some time.
