2009 - Fifty years of collecting

This year is a milestone, it marks the 50th year of collecting for my family.

While I am the only active collector, it is neat to have a Redbook from 1959 with your fathers name written in as a young teenager 50 years ago this year.

Some how I can only wonder if my grandfather knew what he will have started back when took my dad to a coin shop 50 years ago?

Congratulations on this milestone! My father was a coin collector as a kid and passed his obsession on to me.

2009 marks my 50th year as a collector. I have no family history behind me, and by the looks of things I'll be the last collector in even my extended family.

It all started for me on Christmas day, 1959 when my Uncle John gave me the 13th edition of the Red Book and the two Whitman Lincoln cent folders. I still have the book and at least the second folder is around the house somewhere. The first folder 1909-1940 was replaced by a Library of Coins album.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Great story! That Redbook must have been used & perused many, many times. Congrats!

    Congrats Seated and Bill Jones.

Its my 50th too. I started collectiing when my dad brought home nickel rolls and I was finding liberty head nickels.

Among other coins now I collect modern foreign crowns and gold.....I still can't grade very well.
