Cutting cards out of a sheet - recommendations?

I've got this 1992 Topps Gold Winners 9-card promo sheet with a Butler on it. I'm wanting to cut it out and send it in for grading. What do you guys recommend? I don't trust myself with scissors and don't think a paper cutter will quite do the trick. Does Kinko's or the like do stuff like that?

Also, what exact measurments should I use? I assume PSA will know it's sheet-cut if I note it on the submission form, right?

I thought you knew everything--why the need to ask? I would go with serrated scissors, give it the deckled edge vintage look, you know?

Find me an instance where I even remotely suggested I knew 'everything' about anything at all. Typical response from you, unfortunately.

I may have you confused with another poster on this board in terms of "knowing everything" but either way, I do hold grudges so I don't feel so bad:

<< <i>Why don't you write an article and tell us how you would do it. Given your vast hobby knowledge, that should be easy to whip up. By the way, since I don't read every thread I must have missed your update. Can you post the link to the story you told the board you were going to do? >>

I don't think PSA will grade a sheet cut card. You may need to send it to another grader if you want it slabbed.

If you take it to a local printer and ask them to cut it they might?
I asked a printer on my route once and he said yes bring it in. If you don't want to do that
go to Office Max and they have a cutting board which is free and pretty easy to use.

I've sent PSA many cards hand-cut from sheets. They've graded all of mine.

My bad, I thought they didn't. Or is it sheet cut cards that were only distributed that way?

That makes some sense. I could see a case where PSA wouldn't grade/slab a sheet-cut card that was released in packs. As far as I know, the 9-card promo sheet I'm referring to was only available as a sheet.

PM Nam he will fill you in. He has cut Hostess box bottoms and can inform you what needs to be done.

PM me too I can tell you as well, I'm just lazy right now.

Now if you are talking about a Topps sheet I wouldn't cut it.

    Good for you.

I once sent the 1992 Nolan Ryan Topps Gold Pre-Production to PSA (back in 2002 or 2003) and it came back a 10! They definitely grade these cards.

Man I wish I still had that card today, I bet the pop is pretty low.

    one 7, one 8, ten 9s and three 10s.
  • If you trust yourself, here is what to do.

You can go to a CHICK STORE (HOBBY LOBBY) and buy a craft knife. It's just a metal handle with a sergical steel razor sharp knife on the end. You can replace the blade, they are nice. They only cost $4-6 ea. I'm not positive of the "OFFICAL" name of them.

Just go back to the Frame area, they also cut Matte's for framing photo's. Tell them you need something to cut a Matte for a photo they will know exactly what you need.

But, beware KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDRED!!!!!

I hadn't until just now. Thanks for posting that. I'll do some digging and see what cards were printed next to it so you can see if you have any other variations on hard.

It would also be interesting to see if guys around here can find any more of them to see how common they are or aren't.

  • Oh and you may want to check on Fetters and his placement on the orange sheet too.

I did that immediately upon seeing the cards lol...one of them is likely a NNOF sheet variation, but I was playing with some images to see if I could completely substantiate this.

Anyway, it's the card diagonally next to Frank...toward the northeast...I'm assuming there is a strong possibility that the version with the larger blackless splotch is related.

It'll be hard to tell for sure...but hopefully I'll find something that will give dead nuts proof.
