Clearly the King would have to be QDB.

HRH could be the other king.

I'll let reader decide who is black and who is white.

Longacre would be the jester, except that there is no jester in chess.

You could do one side in silver, one side in gold.

For the Gold Set, the UHR could be your king. I say a Liberty Head Eagle as the queen (Double eagles may be too large for the board). Buffalo 1/4 ouncers as your Knights. 1/4 ounce ASE's as your Rooks. Statue of Liberty Commems as your Bishops. 1/10 ounce Buffs as your pawns.

Aren't we call pawns in the game the noble dealers play?

It might be easier to have one side obverse and other reverse.

    Now to pick the pieces...............

Please, do not denigrate the honorable game of chess with such ignoble characterizations. The Staunton design is the official design and any other, while possibly artistic in nature, is unacceptable for serious play. Cheers, RickO

On behalf of chess players everywhere, please don't!

There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who do not.

There are books written that I have seen on how to make chess sets from all kinds of things, including coins.

Many prisoners of war have made chess sets from what ever they could find., even during our Civil War.

Some are agast at this , but I think it would be very creative to make one from some interesting world coins.
Lots of kings , queens, knights pictured on coins.

Gimme a break, he can play chess with whatever he wants to!

You think the first chess set was a Staunton design?

One great thing about chess is the rich history and diversity that it has endured. The game of chess has been played by kings, paupers, popes and lepers. The game has been around for centuries, it evolved to it's current state around the mid 15th century, but existed in some form since the 6th century. Chess is historic, timeless and romantic. Books have been written about it, songs have been sung and fortunes have been made...and lost through it's power. The chess set is a patchwork quilt of history and a testament to the genius and ingenuity of man. I daresay he would be keeping with the tradition of chess more by building his own than by using the "standard" chess board.

I hope he does, I for one would like to see it.

I would relate it to the relative value of the chess piecesPieces Symbol Value
    pawn 1
    knight 3
    bishop 3
    rook 5
    queen 9

    so
    pawn cent
    knight 3 cent silver
    bishop 3 cent nickel
    rook nickel
    queen dime (an approximation)
and King has an infinite relative value, but could be Morgan or Gold piece

one side heads one side tails

In your honor, I did... two commemoratives, (Stone Mountain and Booker T), a Morgan with blue-green fields (NT), and a gold toned Buffalo.
    So...PI** on you.... Cheers, RickO

No, but I've played a lot of checkers with widgets.
I could imagine black in gold and white in platinum pieces, for the VERY Serious players.
